Is Iran Moving Closer to a Military Dictatorship?

February 16, 2010 RSS Feed Print

Yesterday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that Iran may be moving closer to a military dictatorship. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Clinton said that it appears that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the top military organization in the nation, has now "effectively supplanted the clerical- and civilian-led government in Tehran." Though Clinton was unclear on details about why the government believes that a dictatorship is on the way, a number of U.S. and international agencies have already supported the use of economic sanctions against the group to reduce its nuclear threat.

What do you think? What would a military dictatorship mean for Iran? Take our poll and post your thoughts below.
