Does NCAA Football Need to Abandon the BCS for Playoffs?

You have a glorified monopoly of SEC teams who have one or two good teams every year, where as you have the Mountain West Conference who has the BEST Bowl record out of all the conferences. Including this year with a 5-1 record in bowl games. But yet, not one MWC team has even the slightest chance of going BCS no matter the circumstances.

Take Utah a few years ago, we all know they would have smeared the field with the BCS champions Florida. But yet not even a chance. I mean come on, Alabama got TRAMPLED, it was a joke and a laugh to watch.

"FIND ME ANYBODY ELSE THAT WENT UNDEFEATED. THIRTEEN-AND-ZERO. BEAT FOUR RANKED TEAMS. WENT TO THE DEEP SOUTH AND SEAL-CLUBBED ALABAMA IN THE SUGAR BOWL"

Then you have Boise State who has lost 1 game in two seasons, and not even given a close bowl game to the BCS.

My feelings are that some of these bigger BCS given schools are scared that these "No Name" schools will blow the scoreboard out on them, which would be embarassing.

I watch football very closely, and TCU or BSU would have beat Alabama and Texas this year... Both BCS teams were a drop in talent and greatness from previous years and it's starting to show.

People who love college football don't want a playoff system. People who just like college football do want a playoff system. These morons would happily decimate the greatest tradition in college sports just for the satisfaction of reading some college team they more than likely don't follow or know about won #1 that year in a system they declare fairer than the current system, even though mathematically and logically it isn't. And then when college football has been cheapened by these reactionary know-nothings they will move on to complain about something else. May the NCAA never give in and never join in pretending that a playoff is not stupid, ruinous, and somehow more fair.

why change it?why change it? Because the best sport, out of all sports, does NOT have a true champion. The big boys are covered but the mid majors on down are screwed. Do you ever think a boise state team (that by the way is the most winning team of the 21st century) would ever be champion? no! because the system is corupt just like congress... DEATH TO THE BCS!!!!!GO BRONCOS!!!!!

Instead of tournaments, all sports should use a BCS system. Every team with a winning season would be invited to a "bowl" game and matched with a team with a similar record. It would be a reward for a successful season. Then the national champion would be chosen by polls.

Sound silly? Sure, but it is what is going on with BCS football. To hear those defend it who have a financial incentive to continue the status quo is sickening.

We keep assuming that the NCAA is interested in maximizing fan enjoyment and interest - and as a part of that having an undisputed national champion. Their actions indicate otherwise. Even though a clear majority of the fams don't like it, this BCS system fills stadiums for the big bowls, has high TV ratings, and rakes in money for the chosen few - why should they change it?

It is rife with corruption at all levels including officiating .From it's inception ,it has been primarily a sports gambling tournament -it also serves to launder illicit money.

If the NCAA really wants a true national college football champion, they should replace most of the season with a Swiss tournament.

Each week mathups would be determined afte the results of the previous week are in. After 10 rounds most of the tops schoold will have played each other. At the end therer would be at most 1 school with a perfect record. A tie brer would be necessary if there are a few schools with only 1 loss, or more likely 2 losses.

Why is it when you've already created a setup for determining the national champ in basketball and these are the same schools in the same conferences under the same auspices of the same NCAA, there has to be some convoluted craziness that pisses off half the country, year after year? How did national champs get crowned before all this nonsense? When did all this foolishness start? Why are only certain teams ALLOWED to even be considered for one thing or another? Aren't there enough basketball championship opportunities to satisfy whoever might be playing for them that this setup makes sense for football? Sure, it's nice to go to a bowl game, but when you have so many (what've we got now, about 150?) who is REALLY the national champion? Out of 65 schools that go to the NCAA basketball championships and however many for NIT, and the other new tourneys, any school that goes at least has a fighting chance to actually be NATIONAL champ. Football? Please! Does anybody REALLY know WHO the best is? Some hotshot always-on-TV school might never get to play against an undefeated-for-the-last-10-years school to see if THEY stack up, while the undefeated school just has to settle for having a fabulous record hardly anyone will hear about because they're in the "wrong" conference.

The whole thing is silly.

DUMP THE WHOLE SYSTEM AND SET UP SOME SORT OF NATIONAL CHAMPSHIP FORMAT. WITH THE PRESENT SYSTEM THE SMALLER SCHOOLS ALWAY GET THE SHAFT. IIE, BOISE STATE. TO MANY BOWL GAMES WITH THE PRESENT FORMAT. IT JUST DOESN'T WORK. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE BOYS. I LOVE WATCHING COLLEGE FOOTBALL BUT AS I POINTED OUT, THE SMALLER SCHOOLS CAN NEVER COMPETE FOR THE NATIONAL TITLE ALL OF THE MILITARY SCHOOLS DON'T STAND A CHANCE. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. WOULDN'T IT BE NICE TO SEE ONE OF THE ACADAMEY'S WILL THE NATIONAL? IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN MY LIFE TIME. THANK YOU, GO BUFFS!!!!!!
