Bingo.

Apparently, Big Pharma could subsidize everyone if all the fraud were halted.

Mandatory healthcare? Absolutely not! Whatever became of freedom and individual choice? Someone made the comment that everyone is required to purchase automobile insurance. No they're not. If you don't drive a car and instead use other modes of transportation, you are not required to subsidize those who do. As to forced health coverage - there are many people in this country who 'opt out' of the medical / hospital / pharma infrastructure and take personal responsibility for maintaining their health. This is a slippery slope. Once the Democrats and the Fascists on the political left impose their will on Americans to own health insurance, the next step will be to penalize anyone who does not visit a hospital or medical clinic on a regular basis, or who refuses to follow the prescribed form of treatment or prevention that is set forth. Nanny government is showing it's fangs and revealing itself to be Nazi government. Don't roll over and play dead for it.

Yes, I believe that healthcare insurance should be mandatory - but only if the linkage to employer based healthcare is broken. These two items are the cause of insurance portability and denial for pre-existing conditions.

We require automobile owners to have auto insurance and homeowners to have fire insurance. Why do we do that? It's to make the principles of insurance work - large numbers and spreading the risk to make access available at an affordable cost. We do not have that in healthcare insurance today.

If you work for an employer. you pay only a portion of your insurance costs, unless you are in a deeply unionized industry, a.k.a.government, when you may pay nothing. TO these folks, healthcare is free or next to free. What's the problem? None there?

If you are in Medicare or Medicaid, the government pays for your healthcare insurance, other than a small amount. What's to worry, I'm happy.

If you are self employed or a contract employee, you pay through the nose - and your medical insurance premiums may not even be an expense, as it is to the employer. If I am out of work and lose my employer healthcare, I have to either buy insurance at a very steep price, because I violate the principles of insurance and have to worry about pre-existing conditions and bankruptcy.

The fix is in front of us. Keep the insurance industry in private hands and let them compete for individual and family insurance. Let the state insurance organizations regulate the companies (rates, coverages, etc.) just as they do in other risk areas.

We don't need government provided healthcare. We need individual accountability. If an individual or family cannot pay the competitive rates in their location, they should have access to a government subsidy - that will disappear over 5 years.

Oh yes, during the next 2 years while we are finalizing the above, let's lower/eliminate false medical malpractice suits and reform Medicare/Medicaid fraud. Those reclaimed billions can pay for any needed temporary government subsidies.

Get on with it.

Republicans claim Pres. Obama should focus on the economy because it is so weak and not healthcare. But, that is Precisly why -- because the Economy is so weak -- is exactly why we need healthcare reform Now. If you lose your job today or tomorrow, who will pay you and your families' health care bills? And, if your job decides to opp out of paying your health care due to raising Premium costs, you will have to shoulder the burden yourself. But if we can get a healtcare bill through wherein all Americans are covered at a reasonable price, we will all benefit.

It is a sad stain on our society that Republicans and some Pundits spend more time in criticizing the President and Democrats than offering solutions which would help all of us and not just a few. Most of this criticism is petty jealousy and does not add to any positive agendas or upliftment. Many pundits spend the time they have nitpicking, picking apart, tearing apart the President, and it is more ugly than constructive. No wonder we have lost civility in this country. And, then there are those who want him to fear Doing Anything because he might Lose! If we lived by that Premise, we would never get anything done, any of us. There will always be times when we do not get what we want, but that does not mean we have to stop trying.

President Obama has to stay in the public domain to continually answer and address the lies promulgated against him daily. Thank God he is a Symbol of what a 21st President should act like -- able to do more than one thing at a time (multi-tasker) able to communicate, cooperative, inclusive, forward thinking and thoughtful.

"I guess we know who the real 'party of no' is."

I see. Two self-selected commenters with no official position and no responsibility = spokesman for the Democratic Party.

Whereas, countless Republican Senators and Congressmen = nothing at all that needs to be taken into account.

Got it.

Do Linda or Gwazdos have any thoughts on the merits of the proposal?

I don't care if Frist is secretly Josef Mengele, the ideas presented here deserve consideration and in no way are an endorsment of Frist, HCA or anything else.

I guess we know who the real 'party of no' is.
