McChrystal, the U.S. and NATO's top officer in Afghanistan, stated that if the Taliban insurgency is not contained within the next 12 months, it might become impossible to do so. His assessment also warns that unless the U.S. sends more forces and quickly revises the counterinsurgency strategy, defeat is probable.
