Allowing Cellphones In-Flight Would Make Air Travel Even Worse

Like you, I too favor conditions that make air travel pleasant and convenient. Mr. DeFazio, you present some very acceptable concerns regarding this value. However, I charge that allowing voice communication on personal cell phones on airplanes will not interrupt this objective. There are several reasons why in-flight voice communication should not be banned. I have shown why this is true, in detail, at http://webpages.uncc.edu/~bblack23/voice%20communication%20on%20airplanes.html

Please view this page and consider my reasons on why in-flight voice communication should not be banned.

Business travelers are denied valuable productive time by the current rule and, needless to say, this country needs productivity more than it needs whimpering over conversational-level calls whilst on-board.

While I agree with the author's potential frustrations argument, this is an issue for airline policy, NOT the law. The government has a vested interest in safety, but quality of travel is an issue for the airlines, not the government. How would you feel about a law that bans fruit juice in flight because it might stain someone's clothes, or a law that bans sleeping in flight if you snore?

I agree that cell phone calls placed in-flight would be a nuisance and would add to the already uncomfortable and aggravating experience of flying.

Until an airline can check my bag for free, offer free food again and guarantee me a seat where I can comfortabley cross my legs, the last thing they should provide is one more annoyance.

Since I am not allowed to choose where I sit, with whom I sit or when I disembark from the plane, others should not be allowed to make the travel experience unbearable with their "urgent" and not-so-urgent phone calls.

Planes are now Wi-Fi equipped and passengers with Wi-Fi devices (ie. some cellphones, Iphones, Blackberries and laptops) can communicate SILENTLY with those on the ground. Cell phone calls are unnecessary and being offered as a revenue source, not as a convenience for fliers.

Cell phones are rude because if they do not have a speaker phone you can only eavesdrop on half the conversation and that is annoying.

everybody traveling should sit down and read a book who said traveling should be fun?

We are not having fun so why should anyone else maybe this is why people are on depression drugs that do not work we want to have the illusion of control.

and we could have real control if we wrote our congressmen and other politicians on things that really mattered but no we would rather have the illusion of control.
