Why Did Obama Invite Crowley and Gates to the White House for a Beer?

Officer Crowley has come out of all of this as the real hero and the only real victim. By accepting the beer invitation he became a simple pawn in Obama's desperate attempt to salvage his image from this debacle. At a minimum, Officer Crowley should have at least worn his full uniform.

The President was the one being "STUPID" by even addressing the issue. The incident was solely a city-level incident that should have stayed at that level. If the President felt there was racial profiling going on, why hasn't he addressed that issue with the thousands of arrests that occur daily when the arrestee is of a differnt race than the arresting officer/s.

It looks to me like the president of the United States would have more important things to do. Lets be honest here. All he was trying to do was smooth over his STUPID remarks about saying STUPID things on live T.V. about the law inforcement. Obama whether he knows it or not is a racist deep down. He showed this when he sided with his black friend instead of siding with right or no side at all..I'm feed up with electing people or appointing people just because they are a minority that is STUPID. Elect or appoint people because they are the best there is,cream of the crop, top of the line,Greatest.Best for the U.S.Expert etc. Do you understand!!! Not because they are politically correct!!! This is what's wrong! It's STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! Both STUPID partys are GUILTY. We're right back where we were with Jimmy Carter. The world thinks we're STUPID and I guess we are for electing someone because he is a minority. Now look who we are going to put in the Supreme Court. Don't tell me she is the best quilified for the most honorable job of defining our constitution. I guess she is she is another minority. It's STUPID STUPID STUPID..... Well at least we have another STUPID word we can use. Thanks to the President of the United States... We The STUPID People of the UNITED STATES in order to elect another minority are going to have to do without a job,no retirement,no health care,no education for our children, higher interest rates, inflation, closer to socialism. I've seen it all before. We don't have 10 yrs to recover over this mess...GIVE ME A BREAK

God Ms. Harris ,do you Obama bots feel as though you must explain/clarify everything ?Your going to be exhausted by 2012 .Explain now why the "m.i.a "White House Chief of Protocol did not simply inform the two guests of the President that the dress code for the occasion would be a)business or b)sport/casual.If body language is any indicator ,they appeared uncomfortable -not because they were overdressed but because their host's agent did not show consideration with an advance tip as to the dress code.In a nutshell , proper etiquette translates to common sense .A basic tenet being that the host make a guest feel at ease .P.S. I wonder where the Chief of Protocol was when The First Lady put her arm around the Queen of England ?Clue #1 No One does that .Period.

I don't think the president did anything wrong. Especially in view of the expensive wines that are consumed at formal White House dinners. I believe he wanted to meet with these people casually and being summer he chose to have beer. I doubt anyone staggered away.

It's got to get old wearing a suit and tie all the time, especially in the summer. This issue had to be discussed and I think the president felt it could be dealt with in a more relaxed setting and and a cold beer tastes pretty good after a long summer day, as most of you know.

Liquor has been served in the White House since Kennedy was in office (and various other times - I believe the Eisenhowers chose not to). Jackie had cocktails and expensive wine at large gatherings and during State Dinners. She took some flack for it, but it is the common practice in other countries to serve at least, a wines with dinner. I don't think that it is used in excess and I have never heard of any are not staggering out the door. Presidents Carter and W. Bush did not drink for personal reasons and toasted with water; there may be guests that do the same thing.

Thank heaven the president didn't lower himself to wearing those jeans again. That was definitely something to be concerned about.

The Cambridge Police Seargent wears his best suit to show respect for the Preident, the insecure Harvard "scholar "wears his best suit so he get the r.e.s.p.e.c.t he feels HE should have gotten ,while the Chief Executive & VP really do look like a couple of non descript middle management office "Fridays" happy hour types. How sad & pointless an excercise this turned out to be .The real villain requiring censure & our disdain was the poison e-mail author in Boston.

What a joke. I certainly hope nothing serious comes up. I don't think Obama can handle the pressure.

truth4once of MS 5:37PM July 31, 2009

This situation is just another illustration that Obama does not have the experience necessary to know what he was elected to do versus what he believes he should stick his nose in. We work hard for our money and in this economic climate, beer at the White House is perhaps not the most wise public display of peacemaking that Obama could have chosen. He just jumped on the first reaction from his own perspective and put his foot in his mouth. If he wants to see change, quit living on our generation's tax dollars and focus on the more important things that are at this country's helm.

Very concerned... of KY 3:37PM July 31, 2009
