It's obvious that anyone we elect is not going to do what we want them to do. We are going to keep progressing towards a state of complete government control, whether you vote on the right or the left. Bush took away many of our own rights solely for national security, when there were plenty of other viable, more sensible options on the table.

The fact that we're engaging in two wars and probably going to start a third, is just completely ridiculous. We are pissing off the rest of the world with our imperialistic foreign policy. We think democracy is the best thing out there, yet our own citizens are being ignored by whomever we elect into office.

We can't afford to cut taxes anymore. We need to get this deficit under control. This means withdrawing all our troops from the 98+ countries that they are stationed in, so we can spend less on national security and have a more secure homeland. We also need to end this ridiculous war on drugs, because having a black market for these drugs is what is financing terrorists in the first place. If we destroy the source of their massive profits (the black market of drugs), then we take away a lot of their power and influence in the world. Instead, we've been fighting a drug war for over forty years that we haven't gained any ground on, at all...

DeMint is not going to change policy. No one we elect is going to change policy. The constitution is merely a historical artifact as it stands today. Haven't you noticed that whomever runs for president always promises all these great things and changes, yet they never happen? In fact, the opposite almost always happens. Bush said he would protect us from terrorist attacks, and in his first term, we had the largest terrorist attack on American soil. Obama promised healthcare reform, and since the Republican and Democratic parties are like matter and antimatter, there will be no change. They always disagree with each other solely for the purpose of disagreeing and winning support from their party base. It's getting ridiculous.

Axe the DEA, the CIA, merge the National Guard with the NSA, destroy the black market of drugs that finance terrorists (since drug users will use drugs regardless of the law--and we have about 20+ million regular illicit drug users in our country). Doing all this would eliminate the national deficit, and we will no longer need to worry about national security threats, because we would have plenty of troops at home protecting our borders, and we would save billions of dollars a year by ending funding for a war that cannot be won (the war on drugs), and we wouldn't need to mettle in other countries affairs. That's why we are so widely hated around the world. We are viewed as the "policing country" on Earth when we have no just cause of doing so. Just eliminate the war on drugs and all of our seemingly large problems will be solved.

The end. Too bad it will never happen. In 100 years the U.S. won't exist, if we continue on the path we're on.

I don't think it's necessary to elaborate

DeMint says:

"Government should do what the Constitution says it should do."

I looked over his votes at Vote Smart, and this seems to be a new idea for him. I wonder how he would justify Federal interference in state regulation of drug usage (such as medical marijuana). If the interstate commerce clause allows the Feds to prohibit the production of drugs even when there is no evidence of these drugs being involved in interstate commerce, then the Feds can regulate ANYTHING.

DeMint told Vote Smart that we need mandatory minimum sentences for drug users, stronger anti-drug enforcement at the border, and opposed allowing states to regulate medical marijuana usage within their borders without Federal interference.

DeMint bemoans how our country is heading towards tyranny, yet he supports the drug war. He is building a police state within the USA by waging a futile "war" against a sizable portion of the American population. He is giving the government ever-increasing power to confiscate property and spy on citizens. He is imprisoning millions of my countrymen for no good reason. He is destabilizing developing countries around the world and on our border (Mexico). His fanatical adherence to the drug war is even funding terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and Colombia.

DeMint, like most Republicans, is no friend of liberty. He would be a tyrant himself if he was given the chance.

Notice the slightly racist and more than slightly unhinged comments by some people here.

DeMint is no better, implying that the President of the United States is like Hitler and the USA is like Germany before WWII.

Shameful. And disgusting.

DeMint needs to apologize. Now.

This DeMint character doesn't seem very bright. His answers to questions are kind of obtuse.

I've heard for years that "DeMint isn't the sharpest pencil in the box."

This interview seems to confirm it.

Senator DeMint is exactly right. This country is headed for tyranny as fast as it can go. Both major parties forgot that the purpose of constitutional government is to guard the basic rights and liberty of the people. Most politicians are hypocrites for taking an oath to defend the constitutional principles but consistently act contrary to them. One need to look no further than their voting records.

Lovers of liberty will get behind a true champion of the constitution.Senator, welcome to the Ron Paul movement.

It is amazing how many bigots there are still left in this country. Reading the tone of some of the comments is scary.

If you think for one second anyone would want to take over this country after the shape the last administration left it in your nuts.

Don't kid yourself, if anyone of you can say the our country was on the right course pull your head out of the sand and take a good look in the mirror. Its time to eat some crow, tighten up the belt and break a sweat.

And did you actually say communism? How I pity your closed minds.

Can we put up a new constitutional ammdt. to prohibite "know you were deceving" to anyone who will handle public rules, ect.???
