How Should the Baseball Hall of Fame Treat the Steroid Era?

Is there anything wrong with an actress that enlarges her breasts, lips or any bodypart so that she is more "marketable"? This is all entertainment. So if a player would like to bolster himself to become more "marketable" so be it. Who really cares? It's not like they're curing cancer or anything they are just hitting and throwing baseballs. The Babe had his crouch, Mickey had his and Gaylord Perry was the "dirtiest" of all. How many complaints are we hearing about Gaylord Perry and his admitted use of foreign (made in the USA) substances? Or is this a racial thing? No big problem when Mark McGwire bolstered up about 50lbs(all muscle) and was hitting the crap out of the ball.

Anyone caught useing steroids at any time in their career should keep personel records in the books ,but CANNOT hold any Major league season or lifetime records....Adam

No exceptions! If you're caught cheating then you don't deserve to be recognized as one of the greatest. If baseball has seen fit to stick to it's policy in Pete Rose's case then they can't let these modern day cheats get into the Hall, even with an asterisk! What do you want to see out of the next generation of ball players or all althetes, for that matter? Great athletes or pathetic humans who have learned that the end justifies the means. This isn't just a lesson for baseball, but a lesson for humanity.

these people get paided a load of money and shouldn't be doing anything , but natural strenghting to use a drug to obtain super strenght is wrong and misleading ...if they can't do it without the roids then they should spend some of there millions on a therapist and get there heads straight , they are insecure.what happen to the good old days when most men could achive there goals on raw guts? they make me sick ..

I get a bit ill when I read articles saying that cheating is part of the game and should be ignored. Gosh! If we adopt that idea the next thing we'll hear about is Polititcians lying and cheating. Relish

The only thing I would like to add to this is the fact that Pete Rose, let’s see what did he do again: 4,256 hits, played over 3,000 games, and has three World Series Rings!!! You’re not going to let him in because of "cheating" well I think we have all heard that steroids is "cheating" so if these schmucks can get into the Baseball Hall of Fame with an asterisk marked next to their name, then why shouldn’t the great Pete Rose?

As a lifelong friend of mine, who played in the Cubs organization (minors) in the late 70's and early 80's), said," Steroids have been around a while and many used them then. I, myself, remember asking a football buddy of mine in college how he got so big. He said "roids". This was 1978. "The horse is already out the barn ." So, from now on ,test, rule, banish for steroids, whatever, just move on...., beyond that sounds like a "SPITBALL" to me.

I've been wondering for some time now when the issue of records being made/broken while these people are under these illegal drugs! How angry the true record makers must be!I can't imagine.

I was falsely under the impression(silly me!) that sports people were tested just as I am on my job.

When I hear comments like some that I read here about " everyone does it,its not really cheating, yada yada....I reailize why it hasn't stopped.

Lets say...I'm a bus driver,I take your kids to and from school 5 days a week.I really do drugs and I'm usually whacked slap outa my mind so bad that the kids are afraid sometimes when I run stop lights , I nod out cos of the heroin.BUT..my brother is a chemist and has found something that changes my pee test to negative every week.Isn't that cool?I'm not really cheating.I need the job.

Hmmmmm....

The real numbers when every other player wasn't using steroids.

Kevin of IL 4:48PM August 20, 2009

From the beginning of baseball people tried to get the upper hand. Whether is was altering the equipment, whether is was stealing signals, whether paying for the best athletes. People always try to take shortcuts to better one's self. Steroids are no different. It was known by teammates, coaches and even the commissioner. For those who think it was wrong, the MLB still slaps you in the face with a weak testing policy without really looking for wrongdoers. Players are still cheating, looking for that extra hit, extra strikeout, one more game, one more year, one more extra dollar. This is professional sports, this is life. People do what they need to do to get ahead. People are challenged ethically daily. From science, from the business world, from politicians, to MLB players. Why punish people for being human, supported by their peers, their superiors, and their fans. If the HOF is for the fans, the fans didn't care if their team had extra hits, runs or wins. They rooted for it. They didn't care why, they just liked it, it was their team. I say don't punish those who played the game like it has always been played, like it always will be played.
