Is Palin Quitting Because She's Hiding Something?

Sarah could pose with a crumpled American flag as a prop and her supporters would still see her as Mother Theresa. Oh, Mother Theresa didn't quit.

It has become painfully clear that Ms. Palin is to some extent intellectually deficient--just look at the rambling speech she gave, and the way she writes--but also somewhat emotionally unbalanced. These things would not necessarily be enough to keep her out of public life, were she able to accept direction, mentoring and advice from people who have had successful political careers. Sadly, however, she has a naracissistic streak that causes her to believe that she's always right, and to constantly posture herself as a victim.

As somebody else put it, a candidate who is simultaneously that intellectually impaired and that ambitious is like a golf cart driven by a rocket. It breaks the sound barriar, but you can't guide it.

The ultimate judgment of history will be on John McCain. By making such a choice, he placed the republic is great danger. It's also a judgment on the Repuclican party, that McCain wasn't free to pick somebody else, because they had to cater to rightwing Christians.

Finally, Sarah Palin's journey is a cautionary tale about the treacherous nature of beauty, not just to the world but to the person who possesses it. Hers gave her tremendous momentum at first, but it concealed something frightening, because there is nothing quite as dangerous as the narcissist. Such people hurt others, but they also hurt themselves, because once people understand the narcissism they end up being objects of ridicule. And they don't have enough insight into what's driving them to keep quiet.

I wish her the best, but I'm so glad she didn't get power. America dodged a bullet.

As she criticizes others, she insists she's unfairly being analyzed. Her Ban-Abortion pals increased the tax cost of government by making police come to their raids on abortion clinics. Her religiosity endorses "faith-based" GOVERNMENT agencies that give TAX-PAID jobs to preachers. This week, she's quoted as saying Obama is "immoral." I assume she's talking about his respect for our Constitutional right to decide what we do with our bodies. If she takes tax money as per diem, for not living in the governor's mansion, that proves she's a careless public servant.

I suggest she was paired with McCain because she's a woman and the ex-First Lady was competing. That never raised Palin intellectually to the level of Hillary, a practicing attorney and Po=Choice activist, but it seems to have flattered Palin into accepting a nomination that, sadly for her, revealed that in some areas she's poorly schooled. She'll need good health and encouragement as the family does what's necessary to care for a Downs Syndrome patient.

that she was not the right choice for 2008, and that she won't be the right choice for 2012.

Maybe down the line after having her kids grow up and she wises up, then it could possibly happen.

It really doesn't matter if there is anything she's hiding, she has painted a big fat target whatever she does do in the future, and she really has nobody else to blame but herself. And I'm sure this isn't the last of what we'll hear from her, since she has legal bills to pay (probably unnecessarily at that), and she'll be writing a book, doing speeches and appearances. But she's going to keep getting scrutinized, and I think she needs to realize that fact, deal with it, and get along with the rest of her life, something that I'm afraid she's not going to do.

Oscar Wilde said "The public have an insatiable curiosity to know everything, except what is worth knowing”.

You are so right Muser of NM. Mrs. Palin's resignation has only raised more curiosity, so the scrutiny and attention will probably intensify. Admittedly, her introduction to national politics has been rough, especially when criticism comes from the right, but if she can not handle the media, then perhaps retiring from politics altogether would be a wise decision. I think there are some bigger skeletons in the closet.

The lady is poor role modle for her children. That is 1st thing that should matter to a parent You only have a short time to love and give the children the foundation which they need for life. She has failed at this The only job that will matter at the end.God intrusted your soul with five children. How did you do?

I don't believe she can handle any other job. I was taught you never quit unless you have done wrong by the job. Then you make it right or you will have no respect.

I take her reasons at face value, she was so busy defending herself against baseless attacks, she could not do her job. She did what needed to be done for the good of Alaska, now the new Governor can actually Govern and do the work that needs to be done. She is thinking of what was best for her State, not herself, something the main stream media is hard pressed to understand because it is so rare in politics, someone who truly cares about her State and its people!

Christy Bartholomew of FL 2:41PM July 07, 2009

we'll all soon know what it is----again IF there is anything being hidden.

Sarah may be imagining that her resignation will make her a less-scrutinized person.

Nothing could be further from the truth as long as she remains politically active in any manner whatsoever.

Muser of NM 12:52PM July 07, 2009

Becoming a lame-duck and milking the taxpayers of a paycheck when you aren't up for re-election is a choice! But instead of quitting there is a much better option for Palin...why doesn't she continue to work hard and serve the best interest of the good people who elected her because she willingly took on that responsibility.
