I agree with alot of the posts. I still do online gambling. The ban has driven alot of people to online gambling sites that are not at all secure.......I would love for it to be legal and play as I wish wherever I wish. And with some protections. And wouldnt mind being taxed to do it

As a businessman from Alabama, I know very well that the Senator is very uninformed about poker and those who play it. Although still technically illegal in Alabama, there are many poker games every night in our great state. Senator Bachus, please show me in the Bible where POKER is bad and BINGO is good? If you are worried about the churches, go after those who commit adultery, that is actually a sin, playing poker is not. I guess since many high profile people are guilty of adultery, its ok to look the other way. Poker will become legal, get with the times Senator.

I'm tired of people talking about the children, i can buy anything and everything i want online so why does it change. Don't tell me how to spend my money, and i won't tell you how to be a better parent. These people are just going to drive this further underground.

Aside from reasons listed by others here there are a few points I would like to emphasize:

1. Anything that places an individual's money at risk is considered gambling. This means placing your money in banks online, or trading stocks online are both forms of online gambling. The fact they're exempt from all the ludicrous legislation shows just how much these issues are based on politicians trying to get some notoriety.

2. Poker, like Wall Street, is a game of information. It is a game that can be beat. You can lose at it if you're uninformed relative to your competition however. But either way they both have an entertainment value as well.

3. Despite the fact poker can be beat, the government is claiming it is a terrible sin for our youth to be exposed to. This is blatantly hypocritical. The U.S. government, federal and municipal, utilizes lotteries and gambling profits to help fund itself. Newsflash, casinos make almost all of their money from slots (guaranteed to be a losing venture, there is no way to beat them with house odds) and lotteries have the worst return of all (something like 30 cents returned on every dollar spent.)

4. If poker is going to be outlawed - drinking, smoking, pornography, hunting/bearing arms, religion, etc... Will all have to be outlawed. Because while the majority of people can utilize these responsibly, there are the few who will abuse these venues. Ironically, those few that will abuse them will find a way to do them even if they are outlawed. There's a reason they call it addiction.

Im a registered republican and i can say this is just one more issue that just pisses me off with some republicans. Where is this republican principle of freedom and opportunity? This online industry will economic growth and help boost the prosperity. Im mostly a republican because of economic and foreign policies, but this is just a joke to take away of a right of an american citizen's right to gamble online. Sure there are ppl underage and gambling can hurt people emotionally and finacially, but its not the job of someone in the government to get involved in someones life decision that they want to make. This is just an absolute outrage for either a republican or democrat to limit a persons freedom here. Its stupid issues like this that is even being discussed which make me so frustrated with not just a republican like this but with government. Its hard for me to say this, but I want to thank Barney Frank for taking a stand on this to help legalize online gambling.

Online gambling isn't hurting people who dont play, so why vote in not legalizing it? Of course online gambling should be legalized. Umm.. I think were in a recession right now?? An industry as big as this will definatly help with the economy with the state its in right now. I dont want to really get in with other issues that I stand for and make sense, but here are a couple which involved with freedom, equal rights, and equal opportunity for everyone. Marijunna in not just Cali, but the entire US should be legalized, even though i dont agree with gay marriage people have the right to be married to another person whom they love. I know im going off topic here still but I just have to bring this up. There is no such thing as global warming people. People do not heat the earth, the Sun heats the earth. Now im not saying 100% that global warming is a scam, but it most likely is just to create more government jobs and make the government bigger. Okay, enough of that and back to the real issue here lol.

Again though, its stupid issues like this that a republican offical is taking that doesn't make any sense morally or by principle. Just like the 2nd amendment; which protects the right to keep and bear arms, why take a stance on getting rid of online gambling in the US which will take something away from millions of adults who use and play it for leisure, enjoyment, and some who even choose to do it for a living. One last point, take it for someone who has been playing for around 4 years online; the people in government who are trying to get rid of this should really try understanding more about this hobby instead of just trying to get rid of something that people enjoy when you do not know that much about it. Thank you for your time. Hope I wasn't too boring and didn't make too much errors.

PEACE> P.S. I want to thank everyone who plays this great game and for people who are trying to stick up for it and legalize it

It's stupid that we are even talking about this. Adults are responsible for their own actions, sure some addicts gets hurt(financially or physically) by playing online poker, so what. There are probably more people get hurt by a ton of other sports like skiing than playing poker, should we just ban all those as well. We might as well ban driving, I heard that kill a lot people each year.

Jason of VA 2:07AM June 12, 2009

if they ban online poker, they are killing the sport. whats next? you ban high school athletics because a very small percentage of people could get paralyzed?
