Here in San Diego Vicente Troy Hunt a citizen and veteran has been battling the for the last 6 years to get his kidnapped daughter back from Mexico. However, he has been getting neglected by the US Congressman Bob Filner, Diane Feinstein and Barabara Boxer. He has had threats against him by Chula Vista Police Officers to try and persuade him otherwise. He hopes that the White House Administration and the Justice Department will finally look into his case.

Sonia Sotomayor of the Bronx makes a compelling story as President Obama's choice to replace Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court.

The concept that because a Hispanic woman who has fought her way up to achieve the American Dream is racist because she is proud of her background is absurd. Judge Sotomayor is eminently qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice. She is proud of her background and the hardships she has endured to reach her current position. Calling her a racist is nothing more than Republican smoke and mirrors since they have nothing more substantial to criticize. It is a sad example of a once rigorously intellectual and principled Party imploding into irrelevance.

Beginning as a migrant laborer and eventually earning a Ph.D. I have a more compelling story than Sotomayor. That means nothing on the Supreme Court. What is important is to know the Constituttion and the concept of separation of powers. Somewhere she missed class that day. Judicial self-restraint is another concept that a solid candidate should exhibit.

Why is US News becoming a "me-too" journal?

I'll try to comment without insulting the position others take, we won't all agree on everything.

The liberal point of view that judges should exercise empathy in court cases seems more appropriate in the sentencing phase of a legal case.

Appellate cases should be decided on the proper application of the law, as written. To apply empathy in these courts relating to the proper application of written law seems misplaced.

Its fine that Sotomayor has life experience that she can apply in her work as a judge but what's important is... When is it proper for her to do so? Our laws provide for a judge to exercise those discretionary powers during sentencing in most jurisdictions.

Based on what I have seen thus far, Judge Soto-Mayer is in drastic need of someone to read the Constitution for her. Her marginal racist/sexist remarks, judges making policy, and in ability to understand the meaning of "shall not be infringed" make her a very marginal candidate for the Supreme Court. The overt political extortion presented by President Obama in her nomination further indicates that her legal qualifications were not important, but rather her social and politial beliefs were placed at the forefront. Her nomination is a insult to a great many Americans, especially those in the Hispanic community who deserved a better example of what a judge should be.

Don't you just love people who make such ridiculous comments! I seem to remember a President saying hmm, there are weapons of Mass destruction and we must protect you from them. I guess Congress should have just blindly do what the President says because its the true intent of the Constitution.

Checks and balances? Who needs them...

Amazing...
