Is Sonia Sotomayor the Right Nominee for the Supreme Court?

May 26, 2009 RSS Feed Print

Hispanic judge Sonia Sotomayor "will succeed retiring Associate Justice David Souter if she is confirmed by the Senate," reports the Daily News. "Sotomayor's nomination process could be rocky. Within days of Souter announcing his retirement, a video surfaced in which Sotomayor was caught saying the courts are the place where 'policy is made' -- an activist viewpoint sure to rankle conservatives. She quickly added, 'And I know this is on tape and I should never say that, because we don't make law. I know.'" Is Sotomayor the right choice for the Supreme Court? Will she be an "activist" judge? Post your thoughts.

Anyone who reads Nancy Drew believes in justice. She will have common sense and probably use a cheese slicer to arrive at sensible, understandable decisions. The men will hate it, us girls are going to love it. Rock on Sonia.

Choosing Sotomayor is a step in the right direction and very much in aggreement with american democratic ideals of pluralism and tolerance so necessary for a peaceful country and world...we need more people who will build bridges between the the races, religions and national differences......and make an easier life for everyone..... Cordially....

Thanks to the meaningful coverage thus far, we are well aware of her gender, ethnicity, and humble background. Will she defend and enforce the U.S.Constitution? Who knows? Few that I can find seem to care.
