The internet has a huge tendency towards communication. Where there's more communication between people there tends to be higher portions of liberal thinking. This is evident not only on the web, but in places where more people reside, like cities, and near the coasts etc. So, it would only make sense that you would find more liberal thinking on the internet.

Secondly, sites like USnews.com and others attempt to remain objective. The article you have here is under www.usnews.com/opinion/ -- suggesting that this is not relevant to the whole site, but rather an opinion piece, as it really is.

Thirdly, this article, like many persuasive pieces, is based on pathos, rather than logos, and is subject to large amounts of fallacies. One in particular is, "You don't ban electric guitars just because someone may have a lapse in logic, goodwill, and decency and spontaneously break out into country and western music." Can you compare the deaths of people to country and western music? Is that a fair comparison? Probably not.

If you want real news I suggest you go to highly objective sources like theonion.com -- There you'll find the truth about America and what's really going on. God bless America

I support background checks, so that violent felons can't purchase guns. Gun free zones are bad. Guns are good. Guns dont kill people, people kill people.

I typically stay away from and article from main stream media. Articles are usually spun into a beautiful liberal web. If I had known that you wrote for US News I would have given them another chance. I am a soldier and the furthest thing from a liberal I can be. I am die hard Constitutional Conservative. Thank you for all you do sir. Keep common sense in the mainstream. Again God bless you and yours.

I do not see that a total ban on guns is a possibility but because the supreme court has ruled against a total ban on private guns. the crafty democrats still search for ways to indirectly controll firearms. like taxing ammo more and for those of us who reload limiting the amount of powder one can purchase and posess. this may seem trivial but many avid hunters and shooters are afected greatly by these actions. i do support the fact that background checks are done for those purchasing firearms because it does increase penalties for violent felons trying to purchase guns and possessing them, however i do not believe that law abiding citizens should suffer increased taxes because some bleeding heart liberals in washington, who probably have never touched a gun, have an uneducated opinion that guns are BAD and that GUNS commit crimes. give me a break guns help good people save lives.

Prior to the Supreme Court's 2008 Heller decision, I'd have to admit that there were some Democrats and gun-control advocates who DID advocate a total ban on private firearms. After the Supreme Court justices handed down Heller, these same people obviously would have given up on a total gun ban, although they would still promote milder forms of gun control. Nowadays, there are NO LONGER any persons who seriously favor a total ban on private guns. After all, the Supreme Court has already prohibited a total ban.

The REAL PROBLEM is that there are certain Republicans and pro-gun advocates who still promote the notion (however exaggerated) that a total gun ban is a real possibility. This is even AFTER THE SUPREME COURT'S CLEAR-CUT RULING AGAINST A TOTAL BAN ON PRIVATE GUNS!!!!

Does the rock'n'roller (Nugent) still think that a total nationawide ban on firearms is a real possibility, even AFTER the U.S. Supreme Court said in June 2008 in D.C. v. Heller that there simply CANNOT be a total ban on private firearms. This ruling is binding on the local government in Washington D.C. and binding on the federal government itself. On the other hand, the Heller decision did not address gun restrictions imposed by the states or by local governments within the states. Regarding more moderate forms of gun control (i.e. almost anything short of a total ban on private gun ownership or use), Juatice Scalia suggested that the 2nd Amendment DOES permit some form of gun control, but NOT a total gun ban.
