I must read the book but I have no hope for the America I’ve known for 76 years – We can’t return. The down of the Nuclear Age changed all that. WE can’t rid ourselves of the weapons so there must be a world government with the power to stop ALL nations from starting a nuclear war. It will be big government; Id like to think democratic but reckless capitalism will have to be contained and natural finite resources rationed and replaced by renewable ones especially in the field of energy. I don’t see this being addressed by leadership or the people.

It's a great book if you believe that, "global warming is the greatest & most obvious danger.

I just listened to an interview by Amy Goodman of Mr Greider. This interview was sandwiched between one with Senator Russ Feingold and an interview with a young boy who was pleading for the return of his mother who had been deported to Mexico.
I am thankful for the hope that Mr. Greider holds out for a reformation that must happen if our laws and resulting behaviors will truly provide a safe and healthy "home" existing in a world of other "homes".
Perhaps a more thorough examination of just how and why our "framework" of values developed and how our assumptions have failed to shine a light on the
ways in which our so-called "national values" have been applied.
I look forward to reading the book, "Come Home America". Having lived almost 77 years, my limited perspective of the world comes from my own experiences and from others with whom I have shared this time. It is always a comeuppance to
encounter another view of the world from a contemporary and even more startling is someone who seems to have so little awareness of the web of history that surrounds us at all times.

I heard an abbreviated interview with this author this morning on NPR and was heartened to hear him not only outline the failures of this country's "leaders" in areas of law and destruction of our Constitution, but he let it be known that we have let the moral decay which is so corrosive to undermine the very essence of this country's soul. That is what blinds us to the degradation that has evolved thus far and will continue to unless we grow up and become responsible and face our reality.

I listened to Mr. Greider the other day on an interview, I forget where - sorry. Anyway, he "hit the nail on the head" on several topics. I'm looking forward to reading his book. He clearly outlined and discussed several points in which he described the path we've been led down and what the outcome is. I was delighted that he maintained the notion that these policies and practices are not unintentioned, mistakes, or the result of incompetence. No one is really swayed by those arguments anyway unless they are twelve. The mandate to take back our country is imperative. It impressed me that Mr. Greider chronicled the standards imposed by "special interests", big corporations, foreign money, and our state, local, & federal officials who have lost their ethical standards. Integrity and ethics, not laws, form the foundation of our country and it is quite apparent that we need to revisit the topic of law and how it has been abused and manipulated to serve the few. Moreover, we need to prosecute to the fullest extent those who have violated our standards. Claims that "we didn't know" or "everyone was involved" are simply excuses not reasons and should be viewed as the self serving diatribe that they are. In order to "change" we must demand campaign finance reform, "proper" corporate tax behavior, labor law reform, limits on foreign investment & influence, increased tariffs on imports from countries lacking in standards to name just a few. To do any less just means more of the same. It is high time that we in the lower, middle, & even upper income classes in this country have a voice. Those who "represent" us MUST be made responsible. The vacation is over. I am deeply grateful for Mr. Greider's enlightened views and honesty. God bless you Mr. Greider for your courage.
