NCAA Basketball: The Madness of March

March 17, 2009 RSS Feed Print

What's not to love about NCAA basketball's thrilling, chilling March Madness? It's awesome, baby, as sports announcer Dick Vitale would tell anyone within screaming distance. No argument here. But what about the problem gambler placing a wager with the rent money? The 18-year-old under intense pressure to do the impossible? Or the employee sneaking a peek at a game or two when he should be working? Over the next several days, as part of U.S. News's monthly series The Chat Room, four authors with an inside perspective get their say on the good and the bad, first in this space and then as guests on the Thomas Jefferson Street blog.

The Magic Amid the Madness
NCAA tourney stirs the soul unlike any other, says Seth Davis.

Recession the Ultimate Bracket Buster
Fear of firing will keep eyes on the real ball, writes John Challenger.

Advertising Scores! It's a Beautiful Thing
Lousy economy can't slow marketers' big dance, says Walter Guarino.

Losing More Than a Simple Wager
Problem gambling starts long before Sweet 16, warns Tim Otteman.

JUST WANTED PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO NOT TO BE FOOLED BY ALFORDS SUPERFICIAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS..

LOOK AT HIS RECORD AT IOWA...WHAT HE ACCOMPLISHED AT IOWA WAS FROM AN ALREADY ESTABLISHED RECRUITING FROM THE PREVIOUS COACH..

JUST LIKE THE LOBOS..THE PLAYERS HE HAS BY THE MOST PART ARE PLAYERS HE DID NOT RECRUIT..

YOU WAIT AND SEE HE'LL RUIN THE LOBO TRADITION JUST LIKE HE DID IOWA

Just wanted you to know that channel Local 12 in Cincinnati, OH was playing the NCAA tournment games up until 5pm then they decided that they would air the local news. They have a sister station they could have played the local news or the game on. We are now only going to see the second half of the game. We should be able to see all of all the games with the tickers on top. To intrupt games when they said they would play all the NCAA game tournments really upsets me. In your best interest you should contact channel 12 news in Cincinnati, OH and correct the problem. I do think that Mississippi St. will advance. It's a shame I will miss half of the game. Thanks for your interest in my complaint. Brenda
