If you don't think Exxon pays enough taxes.. stop driving your car..

You support them... so you are to blame. No wonder America has problems a bunch of whiners that can't see past themselves.

Average Exxon's taxes over 5 years and you discover a much lower effective tax rate. As a matter of fact, they pay a far lower rate than I pay, and I am an actual human being who experiences consequences for my choices. Oh, and I'm a $30k a year teacher. Maybe you'll understand better if you read up. I'm not trying to belittle you, just help you better understand. http://tinyurl.com/464fdy9

Do the idiots at Exxon claim sales tax as a tax? The consumers are paying these taxes at the pump that have nothing to do with their cost. Do they think we're all goobers?

How can you seriously think that Exxon's 2009 profit and I quote "one of their best" can possibly help prevent us from attaining third world status when the reccession is not over and the economy is in the toilet still? I am sure that people everywhere that are losing their homes and have nothing to eat will be thankful when they find out that high prices at the pump actually make things easier for them. Governments everywhere are still blaming the banks for the collapse of our economy. Oil at $140 per barrell which drove everything to unaffordable limits where people couldn't afford to eat let alone pay their mortgage was the real cause but when you have an oil man for president then you don't really dig too deep.

Interesting that the article makes no mention of the billions in subsidies the oil industry gets, on top of those profits. Nor that fuel costs, which oil industry controls, have a huge effect on overall costs and the economy. Oil cutting their profits somewhat and passing the savings on at the pump could have a major stimulating effect on the economy, but we don't see them offering to do that, do we?

Where do you get your facts from? I can only say as someone else, you must be on their payroll. Forbes among others have reported on Exxon's and other's uh... enormous tax bill. Here's an article from ABC exposing the truth. There are other articles out there also, Forbes for one as mentioned.

For the person that thinks all is fine with the tax system, huge tax breaks for companies making huge profits every year, you better thnik again. It's this type of B.S. that's going the regulate this country into third world status, a nation of the HAVES and HAVE NOTS. And this is not a party issue as although all Republicans voted to extend tax credit (actually voted not to eliminate the tax breaks), 20 Democrates voted with them. Wealthy people and big corporations like to throw out dollar amounts but the question is what percentage of their income is it? Five percent of the people control 90% of the resources in this country yet on pay 50% of the taxes. Where do you think the rest comes from... over taxed people like me and many of you. And what's the point of talking about Exxon's publicly traded stock? No different than any other publicly traded stock. Not like ther's any guarantee of dividens paid out... the board of directors set what they will pay out based on the groos revenue which is subtracted from to come up with the profits made. I hope you're not trying to fool anyone into believing it's paid from the profits. It's written ooff as a business expense. Big oil and other big businesses have been ripping off the public for years and will continue to do so until they break the whole damn country and politicians on both sides of the ilse are letting it happen.

The ignorance of some responses to this article is amazing.

One post deplores the ~10% (of revenue)profits of Exxon as "beyond economic profits". Economic profit is a very theoretical concept, and should be zero only in a moment of perfect market equilibrium, which never occures. Profits go up, profits go down. Exxon's 2009 profit was a good year - one of their best. Pray that the industry, and most others, get back to those levels again someday. If not, we'll all be relegated to third world status.

Hey morons - the PURPOSE of a company is to make profits. Otherwise, why go through the risk and effort associated with it?

Keep bashing away, lefties, and you'll get what you apparently really want - a stone age existence for all of us!

Does Robert Bryce get kick backs from Exxon? Your article is lame and only glorifies the greed of big oil, 12 billion in pure profits per quarter, that's after the so billions in taxes you claim they paid out. They also should be hit with a 50% windfall profits tax that should be paid directly to the consumer.. Exxon/Mobile being cast by Robert Bryce as do a good er is like calling the devil a saint, you must be on the payroll......

My article pre-dates this one by six months, and is a quarterly version thereof.

Shame on Robert Bryce for not acknowledging my article.
