How Much Longer Will the Economic Recession Last?

January 27, 2009 RSS Feed Print

On Monday came news of massive jobs cuts from many companies, in addition to a survey reporting nearly 40 percent of companies plan to cut employment in the first six months of this year. Look at any financial news site on a daily basis and the results don't seem much better. A few, however, like our very own Bonnie Erbe, see some evidence that the recession may have bottomed out. Are we in for more economic trouble? If so, for how long will the U.S. economic downturn last? Post your thoughts.

Consumer confidence is low and with more people losing their jobs this cycle doesn't seem to be near an end. Unless the new administration comes up with a quick-fix, this will be a long-term problem that will take time to repair.
