Should Creationism Be Taught in Public Schools?

America embarasses itself by even allowing this argument. There is no scientific debate, or controversy, evolution is a solid scientific theory (and incidently, its also likely a fact), creationism is a religious faith, pretending to be science. No scientific body (NOT ONE) has suggested teaching creationism in science class. The only folks pushing creationism (that's "Christian Creationism", none of the hundreds of religious "creation" stories, just Christian) are fundamentalist Christian preachers, and politicians. Anyone thinking creationism isn't religion just needs to read the blog posts supporting creationism, on any site dealing with the topic. This arguement is idiotic, its embarassing, its wasting money in legislatures and school districts, its wasting many millions of hours of our kids classtime, its making America more of a laughing stock.

the problem with teaching evolution and not creationism is that they are only providing one side to the ideas available for how the world was created. and they're teaching evolution as a fact and proven science even though it is still a "theory" this is implanting into the minds of children that there is only one possibility for how we came to be and that creationism is just a fairytale type of idea when there are millions of unanswered questions in evolution that can be answered with the concept of intelligent design. its not that they should be teaching everything about the Bible and religion in school thats the job of the church, but they should at least inform the students of both sides rather than fooling them into thinking that evolution is the only possibility.

OK so everyone on here that wrote that Evolution is just a theory type in to your favorite search engine scientific theory so you actually know what it means. When you say that it is just a theory it makes you sound ignorant to what a theory is. Creation is not a theory it has never stood up to. It is a Theist point of view.

Absolutely not. Creationism and intelligent design offer a supernatural explanation to natural events. There is no moving forward or searching for answers with creationism because creationist claim to already know how everything works and how it got there. Their idea is based on lack of evidence and 100 percent faith. Evolution is a theory. Theory can only be with backed up facts. Creationism is hear say. Only proof is what primitive men with no scientific education claim they saw or felt or heard.

Absolutely not. I am writing my representative now to object to passage of yet another attempt to sneak this backward idea into Alabama's public schools.

Wow...

The comment below me is just so ignorant that I cannot even insult the person posting it.....

LOL!!!!!

I study Bio as a job, and I can tell you you're dead wrong. Micro and macro are not different from "Evolution" as a whole. They both fall into the field of Biology and anyone who says otherwise is just ignorant of the subject.

"Evolution is the basic building block to all modern Biology". Um, no it's not. Only micro evolution is the basic building block to modern biology. Macro evolution have nothing to do with biology. It is inherently religious and unobservable. Evolution is most definitely not a fact, while on the other hand Creation is a fact due to how it has historical science (eyewitness accounts) to back it up.

Actually, Creationism is NOT a Scientific theory.

"The only proof for Evolution is some fossils.."

^this is a lie. There are thousands of studies that have been done that have brought up conclusive evidence in favor of Evolution, which is why 97% of all Scientists accept it.

The reason children are not allowed to decide what is true is because they are CHILDREN. Creationism has time and time again been proven false and unscientific both scientifically and judicially. It has no place in a Science class room.

Evolution on the other hand is the basic building block to all modern Biology.

Keep up with the times. Evolution is a fact. Creationism is not.

Tyler of NV 9:11PM February 26, 2012

Just because creationism is biblical doesn't mean it is not a theory! Evolutionism is being taught as truth, although it too is just a theory. The only proof that evolutionism has is a couple of fossils that have been found. That doesn't mean it scientifically proven. Both are theory, so students should hear both and be allowed to decide for themselves.
