A similar approach should be used for energy, transportation, and other issues. When government is involved, it should focus on setting basic objectives, while leaving the bulk of decision making to the American people. Attempting to impose policies from the top down is the worst way to proceed.
President Obama understandably is emphasizing job creation as his first priority. But he should broaden his agenda while delegating authority. He will achieve lasting results if he works to empower the American people so they are better able to create the jobs and provide the social services that our country needs.
