Your assumption that the Israeli's gave the Gaza islamics all they could give is a long way from objectivity ....the Gaza Strip is little more than a refugee camp run by the U.N. and others for over 60 years right now and still cannot support itself....it is hardly a state much less a nation ...it is of course a tool for oil rich Islamics to exploit but it is also an expensive tool also ,billions of dollars go into its upkeep but not much for sanity and peace of mind.....Israel is the cop in the neighborhood who is doing what the rest of the hypocrits in the world are afraid to do....

After Mumbai, Twin towers, London subway, Spain, and hundreds of other examples of Muslimm terrorist atrocities, has the world and more particularly the media totally lost their senses. Does the media not understand these killings will go on and on. Muslim terrorists kill each other and any group they have any differences with. There is no co-existence possible in their minds. They play the media like naive college students.

Israel's response will not teach these terrorists to live and let live. Hamas will still be there and after smuggling more bombs with the help of Iran, Syria, etc. Hamas will again provoke a reaction of this type.

This has little to do with Arab nationalism. The Muslim theology teaches that they must continue until global jihad and an eventual Caliphate. This philosophy taught by their prophet won't change.

Israel retaliates against the terrorists who hide in mosques, in schools and yes, at UN facilities. These terrorists don't care for the safety of their own people or the children whom they indoctinate with hatred.

There is no answer. Still, Israeli forces must protect Israeli citizens. Terrorists will reap what they sow.

Someday the world and even the media will finally understand. I hope it's not too late.

Mr. Cook blithely throws around the term "collective punishment," and yet it's obvious he has no idea what he's talkiing about. He is seemingly parroting Jihadist propaganda intended to weaken and destroy Israel. First, Israel is under no legal obligation to supply electricity, food, or other supplies to Gaza. This type of economic ban is known as retorsion, and retorsion is widely practiced and accepted in the international community. Furthermore, retorsion is not considered collective punishment, which forbids implementing criminal type penalties on individuals or groups on the basis of another's guilt. None of Israel's actions impose criminal type penalties.

Nobody has pointed out that HAMAS was given a chance to govern Gaza responsibly but outright rejected that idea.

> For 60 years, Israel has been applying force against the

> Palestinian population located

Do you mean "defending itself against attacks"?

Alice of DE 4:46PM January 12, 2009

I agree with Dan and Rick, and disagree with Mr. Cook.

There is simply nothing you can negotiate, when your opponent's desire is for your destruction. We're not talking about Palestinians in general, we're talking about Hamas in particular. And there is only one response. Destroy that terrorist group's military capabilities, and pull it apart until it cannot get up again.

Why do I feel like we're reminding the press that Israel is not firing missiles and ordinance randomly (and with hatred) into Palestinian homes? Hamas IS ACTUALLY doing this very thing. Consequently, after YEARS of enduring this unrelenting hatred, Israel is targeting Hamas strongholds (AKA peoples homes), full of missiles and mortars, and destroying their network. BUT, they are dropping fliers to warn the Palestinian people to clear out. I say great job Israel. Do what you have to do, and do it quickly.
