Is Barack Obama's National Security Team a "Team of Rivals"?

December 2, 2008 RSS Feed Print

Barack Obama's national security team has been called a "Team of Rivals" and a "Team of Egos." Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Marine Gen. Jim Jones, four-star Gen. David Petraeus, and soon-to-be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are surely strong personalities. Are clashes within Obama's national security team inevitable? Will the so-called "Team of Rivals" be able to work together on important issues? Post your thoughts.

Are we sure that this isn't a sneaky way to end Hillary Clinton's career so that Obama doesn't have to worry about her in the next election....

The only thing that would get her out of the Senate was the State Dept. In the Senate, she could build alliances, criticize without fear of recrimination, etc. All this has been said, but can Hillary Clinton re-create her husband's charm? Because much of what got Bill Clinton forward in foreign affairs was charm. So when it doesn't happen, and Hillary takes the rap, her chance at being President is gone.

Yes, there will be clashes. Anyone who served in the Clinton White House knows it. So they must be planning on it.....

The seed of one's downfall is always inside oneself--and Hillary's flaw is her narcissism. Can she rein it in as Secretary of State in order to get to President as she has in the lower exposure position of Senator? Or will it exert itself now that she's so close to her real goal all along? It's going to be an interesting ride...
