Are the Mumbai Attacks India's 9/11?

December 1, 2008 RSS Feed Print

The Indian media have called the terrorist attacks in Mumbai "India's 9/11." The only gunman that has been captured said he belonged to a Pakistani militant group, but Indian officials are reluctant to blame Pakistan's government. According to the Associated Press, a U.S. counterterrorism official said that the "signatures of the attack" were consistent with militant groups that are reported to have al Qaeda links. Do you think the three-day siege on Mumbai is the Indian version of 9/11? Could it have been inspired by the al Qaeda attacks on the U.S. on September 11? Post your thoughts.

I m from India and proudly say that our President is a woman, Ruling party's head is a woman and we had a Prime Minister a Woman which we don't see with USA. We/ our families are bound by very strong moral values which teach us to respect a relationship and live up to the expectation of a relationship. We are bound to be responsible towards our family members. This is applicable to both genders. This may seem a bit harsh if you look from outside but this gives a kind of social and emotinal security.

I really don't understand, why people compare Mumbai attack with 9/11?? If we look back two decades, we have seen thousands of 9/11. I also don't blame USA for making Pakistan a Terror Hub by funding and arming unconditionally as USA may have its own various national interests. But I blame my Indian Govt. for expecting USA to take action what India should have taken on its own or it must take this time, i.e., DECISIVE WAR AGAINST TERROR(PAKISTAN).

It was not of the same scale as 9/11 or as shockingly devestating both in its physical and mental anguish. It may help bring the issue more to the emerging third world, letting them know they are targets as well. Al-Qaeda is a religious war maker, until the other religions and the true followers of Islam join forces Al-Qaeda will live in some form. Religious extremists are the cause of almost all violent death in the world including in the US. In the United States extreme religions like the Southern Baptists, Catholics, Mormons and some of the other smaller extremist churches cause more death through suicides than any other cause of death besides disease. You might say that these Extremists are a sociatel disease.
