We may find in the future the money we spent to bailout the auto industry would have been better spent after the failure of the auto industry as we know it.We take money from one stack put it onto another then the stack we put it on falls and all we have left is the stack we took it from to go on re build etc we may be better off leaving it there and build anew America was strong befor cars existed in other areas of business and will be again in areas that we have probably yet to venture if it's business let the owners do more to keep them going not the goverment. If pies stop selling because people stop eating for some reason i can't ask the goverment to buy my pies to keep me in business and claim it's in the best interest of the country.

Facts Gentlemen,Stats and most of all consequences.

Your talking money, its business, bailouts are fine if ther are rules, requiring the funds be used only to keep people working. Remember that 70% roughtly in the US depend on auto related dollars. Not to apporve it will be a market CRASH, no one will be working It is a community, money concerns are interrelated. Think of your body, can you do without your legs or you head? If you are one not in the Union shops, Im not, you are short sighted if you think that no buy out will resolve itself, and thinks will be OK. If there is no buy out, the economy will utterly collapse. Every worker in America will be devestated. We will not survive. Any more than you can cut of your legs, and continue to function norally. Every one will be harmfully effected. It will be severe as a WW. We probably will not survive it. So think twice before you say No to a buy out. If 70% of the country can't perchase, every business in the US will be devestated, no question. This could be the end as we know it.

The only initial alternative to a government bailout of some kind is chapter 11 bankruptcy. The auto companies may have significant difficulty getting out of chapter 11 for a number of reasons.

Here's what Daniel Gross says in "In Defense of Detroit". Newsweek. 13 Nov. 2008 - "Chapter 11 proceedings for GM would be far more complicated than that of a retailer, or of Lehman Brothers. Recent experience shows that for auto companies, Chapter 11 is like the Hotel California. You can check in any time you like, but you can never be able to leave. Auto parts supplier Delphifiled for Chapter 11 in October 2005, and still languishes there. Getting out of Chapter 11 can be tough when (a) the bankrupt companies are capital-intensive manufacturers; and (b) creditors are reluctant to give up on their claims. Among those with the biggest claims on the automakers, and GM in particular, are the United Auto Workers."

I dont profess to understand all this but if the big 3 are serious about change get competitive with Japan. I have heard all these golden parachutes occuring even when companys go under and it sickens me. I see a repeat here with the big 3.

the CEOs in Japan make about 1 Million per year while the big 3 Ceo's make about $21 million and produce an inferior product to Japans. If we are a can do nation we need to get off our asses and make it happen. No more excuses. If Japan can produce fuel efficient automobiles and more of them earlier than the US manufacturers..whats up with that. Its not that it isnt going to sell and cant be done. Like the Chrysler bail out years ago...they didnt tool down for smaller cars and refused to do it and our goverment bailed them out then. Then they tooled down. Why do WE have to pay these people for producing a product that isnt as efficient as ther Japanese and Korean automobile busineses. Maybe its because they done have the unions to drive up the costs...not sure.

There is NO MORE FREE LUNCH. I work two jobs...not because I want to...because I have to. And the average houshold has two incomes even if it is from one person. The times are a changing and lets get it together Big 3 and be the innovators that you were years a go. If we can get to the moon...we can do this. This failure isnt an option.

First and foremost most of the people who have something to say about this don't have a clue about what they are talking about. Look at the reasons the big three are in trouble right now financially. People say that they need to downsize and they have which has made a situation where there is a large amount of retirees with no one footing the bill for there pensions and rising health costs. Its simple people need to pay into the system (current workforce) to pay for the benefits the retirees are getting. Some people have made the comment that they need to build more fuel efficient vehicles. I agree they haven't in the past, but they are now it's just that people haven't taken the time to do their homework and look into a showroom lately. I believe there are at least 3-5 cars for each of the big three that get well over 30 miles to the gallon. There are some idiots in senate saying that there should be tightened up cafe standards and that the 2020 standards should be pushed to 2015. In the real world higher mileage means more research which means billions of dollars and then you put in the tightened up safety standards which has increased the weight of the cars making it harder to meat the cafe standards. Gee I wonder where all of the big three's money is going? It's being dumped out a window to meet standards that politicians have come up with; politicians who can't even tie their own shoes yet have come up with ways to get the ignorant public to vote for them. The senators have put down the executives for taking their own jets to Washington to ask for money. You lay off tens of thousands of people in a year and sit next to them on the plane, see what happens!!!

I watched parts of the senate hearing and I was angered by senators trying to compare the furniture business in their state that went down to the auto industry going down. Ignorant elected official I have news for you your 100,000 people altogether that were laid off is equivalent to one supplier for the big three and there are many. A lot those people who you don't care about buy goods that are made in your state. We are all in this together!!!
