Public Opinion: Is an Auto Industry Bailout a Good Idea?

If we let them go under we will only increase our dependence on foreign cars and then they will just jack up the price to rip us off like the oil companys do. Next thing you know we will be paying $200,000 for a toyota 4runner which costs $20,000 to make.

At $60 and hour, they should have a lot saved up. Let them bail their own kind out.

in the late 50's early 60 the car dealers and oil co. bought up a pattent for a carberator that would get 100 mpg. now they want money from the american public to bail themselves out of financial disaster. the oil co,. made 300 billion a quarter in the past 2 years, let them give the 26 billion to the auto manufacturer's. after all if it weren't for the crummy mileage of the ammerican cars, we would not be in this mess and the war with iraq.

No! Let them die and stay dead. Every person in the United States can tell you of a family member who lost a job through a company failure. My father lost his job in the Pennsylvania coal mines.I never heard of them getting a bail out. We will do much better with a Honda and Toyota building automobiles instead of Chrysler, Ford and GM.

YA YA YA I know everyone is upset about the goverment bailing out the banks and the banks executives getting monster big dollars for doing nothing. What most people do not realize is that the big 3 are not asking for a bail out they are asking for a loan that will be paid in full in return. What did Toyota and the other foriegn car makers do after 9-11 NOTHING!!! As for the big 3 they came out with 0% financing to help the american people believe that everything would be ok. Well damn them to hell for that. Yes the union did make good deals and is basically holding the auto industry hostage. BUT If you were part of the union at your job you would be happy as hell!! Does everyone realize how many jobs would be affected if the big 3 went under? Probably not! Should there be stipulations of how the money should be used? Yes! Sould the American people stand behind the big 3? YES!!!! If you don't believe me ask anyone that is American!! Have a good day and GOD bless.

The US auto industry should be allowed file bankruptcy and shed the high costs of an out of date union system. With the successes of the foreign imports in this country, the skilled workers from Detroit sould have no difficulty getting new jobs with companies that are thriving. My thoughts are: extend the unemployment benefits to 6 months while allowing the recipients the opportunity to cross train for other employment. The people who are truly interested in avoiding welfare should be given tuition free training while receiving benefits. If they fail to find work after these entitlements run out, they are probably in the hard core unemployable 2-3 % which is a constant in the out of work statistic.

DO NOT BAIL THEM OUT. The auto industry has been pampered too much over the years. The employees have the best package in the world. I could only hope that if my job was taken/given away, deleted that I could still draw a paycheck until they found me another position.

Many workers, including myself, have lost tens of thousands of dollars in our 401K's. Do you see the government throwing us cash to replace what we have lost..No...

But we get the CEO's of these companies that show up with their hands out for a free ride...Just Say No...

They should be fired, no million dollar compensation package...They ran the companies into the ground so let them go down with their ships and go back to their million dollar houses and hopefully not be employed ever again. If I were to perform so badly at my job I would be fired and not given a second thought.

Time for new thinking and a new way of doing business...

This was something coming how come the CEO that collects the big pay did not see this? I think all of this disaster is because of bad management.

Is there only G.M FORD AND CRYSTLER cars on the road. I am sorry for the workers, not management

the all should be layoff for year after year drawing huge salary and now running to the US AND CANADA GOVERNMENT TO BAIL THEM OUT so Management can full their pockets again.

I am not as brilliant as a Senator or hold a government position I am just a labour but I tell you this Mark my words bail them out and you will never stop.
