A staggering 79% of campaign funds came from outside the representatives' congressional district

  • $700 million: Campaign funds House members raised from January 2005 through December 2007
  • 79%: Funds that came from out-of-district
  • 97%: House members who raised more than half their funds from outside their congressional districts
  • 3%: House members who raised most of their funds from within the district where their voters live
  • 99%: House members for whom Washington, D.C., was among their top 5 contributing localities
