Typical MSM tactic of fear journalism.First and foremost, we absolutely do not need the Federal Government to further encroach upon states rights, regardless of how attractive it may appear to the less stout amoungst us. Secondly, one has to ultimately recognize that it is the Congress that is the problem. If they would simply read the Constitution and stick to it's defined obligations of the Federal triune, then this nation would be much better off. Now we have a strong chance that better than 50% of Americans are willingly going to give up on our Republic in favor of the lure of Progressive/Socialism. I suppose it will take another sacrifice as put forth by our original founders to put things back in it's original order.

In the midst of the Civil War, claiming over 650,000 American dead, President Lincoln insisted that elections continue on as usual, otherwise, he explained, tyranny could fairly be said to have "conquered us."

Today we are conquered my fantastical fears, leading alleged election "authorities" to flee to concepts of "absolute authority" over presidential elections in Congress - a constitutionally unprecedented idea, since States are the one and only administrator of elections providing the bulk of election law even for presidential elections.

We ALREADY HAVE emergency plans for power continuity in the House of Representatives, for example, where every member has always purported to be elected and never appointed (unlike the remainder of Senate terms which in some states is filled by gubernatorial appointment). The Presidency has a succession plan already in the Constitution.

One wonders why the rush to give some unknown commission "absolute authority" over conditions of elections that must be worse than the devastation of the Civil War. If the author knows of some impending disaster greater than this he should inform the authorities, otherwise it's little more than a stampede of the public into a de facto change in constitutional governance for reasons that are clear only to God and Goldfeder.
