The Bailout and Financial Crisis Call to Mind Another Tough Vote—the 1993 Clinton Tax Package

I certainly appreciate the impassioned explanation for the 1993 vote. The GOP made hay out of it and enjoyed a long run in the majority as a result. This vote is different. As the Senate added "sweeteners", it made it clear that this bill is not a serious piece of legislation. I only hope that what happened in 1994 can be repeated. Of course this time it will certainly cross some party lines, but I believe elections need to reinforce our control of Congress and put the lobbyists on notice that they cannot simply wish away annoying issues.
