In reference to Ms. Thomas's comment "If you're Mother was still alive...", Cokie Roberts' Mother is still alive. She is Lindy Boggs and is approximately 92 years old.

Ms Roberts,

I thought you were an analyst, not a talking head. I used to admire your reportage. Your crack about Hawaii not being an appropriate vacation spot for Senator Obama smacks of ignorance, stupidity, and just plain crassness. Why can't the man visit his family in one of the united states of America, without being thought elitist? It's a state, for heaven's sake, and one of the most important in relatively recent American history, thanks to Pearl Harbor. I hope by this time you've managed to pull your foot out of your mouth and get your brain working properly. And provide analysis rather than idiocy.

Dear Mrs. Roberts,

In case you haven't noticed, you've been in Washington too long.

If you're Mother was still alive, would you want your children

to go on vacation to Myrtle Beach should New Orleans be considered too exotic if they were running for national office. No you wouldn't.

If Sen. Obama had gone to Myrtle Beach, the all knowing talking heads would criticize him for playing politics with his vacation

and deserting his grandmother and family in Hawaii. Get a grip.

Hawaii is foreign, in Cokie's view, because the majority of its residents are people of color. It has lots of brown people and yellow people. Hence, foreign and exotic.

Cokie is from the South. Does she really believe that Myrtle Beach is a comfortable place for a black family?

My Hawaiian-grown sons who now live in Colombus and Boston will be surprised to learn that they are "exotics." Not only that, they graduated from Punahou School Whoa. I grew up on Maui where I spent a considerable amount of time in the Wailuku Public Library. After reading the Wizard of Oz, I wanted nothing more than to go to Dorothy's Kansas which was by far the most exotic place I had ever read about. Like everything else in life, Cokie, attitudes depend upon your perspective.

Too bad you missed out by not having grown up in Hawaii.

Let' s see if I get this straight Cokie.

According to your logic Obama should not visit his grandmother or visit his grandfather's grave (which he did) because Hawaii is an exotic place.

Did I get that right?

He should have gone to South Carolina and said to his grandmother, "Sorry tutu, Cokie says visiting you would be seen as exotic. She thinks family isn't important so all you get is this postcard from Myrtle Beach."

Again, am i getting that right?

By in large, I don't trust journalists, but used to rank you just a hair above the rest.

Not any more.

By the looks of the other emails, if i were you I would avoid Hawaii as a future vacation spot.

Don't think you are welcomed here anymore.

Cokie is a $*&#!

Do you think the Native Hawaiians CHOSE to become a state? CHOSE to have their Queen overthrown by WHITE plantation owners and BACKED by the US government?

We would gladly accept your comments if the US govt did finally recognize Pres Bill Clinton's formal apology to the Native Hawaiians and return the 'aina (land, specifically the crown lands which are now "state" lands) to the Native Hawaiians.

I hope you don't choose to visit this beautiful land, I think after your ugly comments you will NOT have a pleasant experience. Stick w/ WHITE Myrtle Beach, where you seem to feel comfortable surrounded by other caucasions.

I wonder how many time Cokie has been to Hawaii. Huffington post article is so right on.
