McCain Uses the Bully Pulpit to Balance the Budget

TPM's Josh Marshall can only laugh at the McCain pledge, noting that the numbers backing it up are, well, nonexistent. Others are equally bemused by the McBudget plan. (And of course it gets some applause from the right.) Some of the savings, the McCain campaign says, will come from winning in Iraq, an assertion met with, ahem, skepticism in left quarters and other places. (Is that a faith-based budget initiative?) Meanwhile, Hot Air's Ed Morrissey has a write-up of the McCain campaign's conference call on economics. So Barack Obama will head outdoors to Invesco Field to give his acceptance speech. Great visuals to be had here, especially in contrast to McCain a week later. The Huffington Post's Mitchell Bard thinks Sen. Jack Reed blew his audition for veep by sitting silently on This Week while Lieberman hammered Obama for being a flip-flopper. The Huffington Post's David Sirota finds Jim Webb intriguing because he comes from the world of writing. McCain-Kasich? Obama-Clinton?
