Blog Buzz: Swing Polls, Head Scarves, Michelle Obama, and More

Michelle Obama does The View, Rudy’s back, and veepstakes

Our daily look at stories and topics lighting up the Internets:

Florida, Ohio, Penn--Oh My!

Quinnipiac has Obama leading in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and lefty bloggers are flat delighted (some because it’s another opportunity to kick Hillary Clinton's political corpse). As Matthew Yglesias points out, Florida and Ohio are luxuries for Obama, but necessities for McCain. More bad news for McCainiacs: Josh Orton at MyDD notes that the sample sizes for the polls are large.

Obama’s Head Scarf Problem

No, he’s not wearing one, but his campaign wouldn’t let a couple of women with head scarves sit behind him at a rally. Apparently the campaign staffers didn’t want pictures of him to look too--what? Muslim? Reacting to this one is so easy that some people can barely bring themselves to take the obligatory, banal shots.

Meet Michelle

NDN’s Travis Valentine expects Michelle Obama’s appearance on ABC’s The View to counter complaints about negative coverage. But The Huffington Post’s Kathleen Reardon warns that making Michelle who she isn’t is a risky Obama campaign move. Meanwhile, Michael Shaw, another Huffington Post blogger, thinks today’s New York Times piece on Mrs. Obama seeks to formalize a problem where there isn’t one. How slow of a news day is it? Allahpundit fills the Hot Air with vid clips of Michelle on The View.

Rudy’s Back!

Rudy Giuliani’s stint as a McFlak brings predictable (and delighted) fire from the left, with TPM digging up an old case of another McFlak Mc-blasting Rudy. Bloggers on the right greeted a different Rudy, however, the big gun who tells it like it is about the dangers of Obama.

Veepstakes

The Huffington Post’s Robert Scheer thinks Clinton is the ticket for Obama. Think Progress calls out Gov. Charlie Crist, who endorsed McCain’s plan for Florida oil drilling after opposing it last week, for angling for the VP slot. McCain-Lieberman? Maybe (think Florida). McCain-Pawlenty? It’s a slam-dunk. (Is that a good thing?)

Interesting how Ms Obama suddenly loves this country. She did a poor job of spinning out of her earlier statement about what a poor place we have here until her husband wins the required number of delegates - then all is well. This is similar to her husband suddenly finding fault with his church after no doubt nodding in agreement with Rev Wright's hate infusions to his congregation for a couple of decades. The veneer is peeling off. I hope those with open eyes are indeed seeing what is going on.
