The death of Alexandr Solzhenitsyn gives this article a little more heft since Sharansky worked closely with him. Americans would do well to consider their words about freedom and what is worth fighting for. They speak from outside of our political process which has become mere soundbites and attempts to curry favor rather than discussions on democracy and how to build a nation out of individuals.

Those who don't remember the fight of the "Refuseniks" are condemning this or future generations to the same thing.

Do you have any argument against his thesis or just an ad hominem attack? Are you even dimly aware that he is one of the most courageous heroes for freedom and democracy in the world? His point makes perfect sense to me.
