Scott McClellan's New Memoir Blasting Bush—Appropriate?

May 28, 2008 RSS Feed Print

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan has written a memoir blasting his former Bush White House colleagues for, among other things, making "a decision to turn away from candor and honesty when those qualities were most needed," running the country in a permanent campaign mode, and taking the country into an unnecessary war. He calls the media "complicit enablers" in the drive to war.

He writes that his own pronouncements in the White House pressroom were "badly misguided," although sincere, adding that he "fell far short of living up to the kind of public servant I wanted to be."

Is McClellan correct to write this book now? Should he have spoken up earlier? Or waited until his former boss was no longer in office? In his place, what would you have done? Post your thoughts below.
