JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — An Indonesian official says more than 150 people have been rescued after a boat carrying asylum seekers sunk en route to Australia. Three people drowned, but it's unclear how many may be missing.

National Search and Rescue Agency official Imam said Wednesday the boat sank off the West Java district of Cianjur.

He says preliminary reports from the scene have 157 survivors. They are being interviewed to determine how many people the boat carried.

Imam says the passengers are from Iran, Iraq and other countries.

Australia announced last week it would no longer accept refugees who took the perilous boat journey to reach the country. It would still evaluate their claims for asylum but they would be resettled in Papua New Guinea if their claims were accepted.
