MEXICO CITY (AP) — A Mexican federal government official says accused drug lord Miguel Angel Trevino Morales tried to escape when he was captured two days ago.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to be quoted by name.
He said Trevino Morales tried to run away through the brush near the border city of Nuevo Laredo after marines stopped his truck.
On Tuesday, officials said two of the three men in the truck dropped to the ground, but one ran.
On Wednesday, the official said Trevino Morales was the one who ran, scraping his face against trees and shrubs.
Trevino Morales had what appeared to be scrapes in photos distributed by authorities after his arrest.
Better known as "Z-40," he is one of the highest-level suspects captured recently.
