BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi officials say a bombing has killed a traffic policeman and wounded eight other people in western Baghdad.

Police officials say the Monday morning roadside bomb missed a police patrol that was moving through an intersection in Mansour neighborhood. The blast killed a nearby traffic policeman and wounded eight passers-by instead.

A medic at a nearby hospital confirmed the death. All officials spoke under condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

Violence has ebbed in Iraq from its height five years ago, but insurgents frequently attack the security forces in an attempt to shake the people's confidence in the Shiite-led government.
