LONDON (AP) — British police say five officers have been hospitalized after they were mauled by a dog during a raid.

The Metropolitan Police force says the officers were trying to arrest a man in east London when they were attacked by "a pitbull type dog."

Four suffered serious injuries and one was slightly injured before members of a police firearms unit arrived and shot the dog dead.

All five officers were in stable condition at a hospital.

The force said a man in his 20s was arrested in Thursday's operation and was in custody at a London police station.
