CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Police have arrested two men and a woman suspected of participating in last week's kidnapping of Mexico's ambassador to Venezuela and his wife.

Four armed men seized Ambassador Carlos Pujalte and his wife as they were leaving a party shortly before midnight on Jan. 29 in Venezuela's capital.

The kidnappers freed the couple four hours later.

In a statement released on Monday, the prosecutor-general's office announced the arrests of Juan Pacheco, Oswaldo Leon and Mayurki Barreto.

Venezuela has one of Latin America's highest murder rates, and the number of kidnappings have risen sharply in recent years.
