I have a felony for 3 dui's. I would love to be able to serve the united states and everything it still stands for today. I have a High School Dioploma and a skill trade, and great work refrences. I have also asked for Sen Carl levin office to help w/enlisting. I have family memebers dead and alive that have served. It would be a honor to join the corps! I would like some help or some insight, if someone knows on how to excute a waiver of mine? Or the right chain of command to put on the matter.

"we need more active duty men like myself that deserve a second chance".

not entirely accurate... our active duty forces still make up the very large majority of the forces in Iraq about 20% are National Guard and Reserve Forces. This doesnt diminish the huge contribution that the Nat'l Guard makes-- the Active Army certainly couldnt do it alone.

Don't think bringing the draft back is going to be a useful tool in rebuilding the military. We have established a culture of opinionated, self-serving people who truly do not want to serve in harm's way and the means of discipline within the Armed Services that required draftees to conform to the law has long since vanished. Plus uncooperative draftees are a magnet for the sensationalist, left wing press always looking for something to atack and crow about. In the 1960's judges gave some defendents the choice of going in the military or going to jail. The standards for education and clean criminal records were waived so that the military could meet draft quotas for Vietnam and world-wide commitments. The insidious effect of this was the racial and disciplinary discord in the 1970's. No need to repeat the same mistakes. Better to draw down, move significant numbers of troops back from places like Europe, Korea, the middle eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, scrub and rebuild the Reserve and National Guard Units that are not up to standard (as we found in the stand-up for the first Gulf War), maintain the current strict standards for a clean criminal history, and require our "allies" to share more of the burden. Lastly, the military should not be a petri dish for growing social and political agendas, especially at the detriment of combat effectiveness. Reverse Darwinian selection does not work on the battlefield.

There is one damned easy problem to solve. Bring the boys home from the 160 different nations where they hate us for having troops in 160 different nations.

Tough times to bring on board a quality force. The inbound administration and legislative branch may want to reconsider the use of this damaged military as an "instrument of US National Political Will" until we exit the current wars we are snared in. All this will be difficult if the inbound executive and legislative branches downsize the Department of Defense budget to pre-911 sizes, even adjusted for inflation, to fund their "other-department" stimulus plans. God bless our military folks in the times ahead.

Begin the DRAFT! All the cyber wockies with headsets and mommy still doing their laundry and "stay at home" dads, can finally earn their freedom.

Be sure and recycle your ammo boxes too by the way!

I am totally agree with the above three comments, we have to take in look about the strength and training more rather then considering the qualification level. This will add more to troops. Don’t have to think of high school diploma because people having that are interested less in joining army. Train train more and more to add more strength to troops.
