Russia can be considered as a superpower in economic and resource sectors, not so much in military might. Economics and resources are what truly matters in this day and age. But even in military industrial might, compared to the United States, Russia has an advantage. Russia has the industry and resources at home to produce and sustain a war. The United States has to rely on foreign sources of energy, manufacturing, and even services in order to maintain a level of sustainability. If a group of these nations fall in the hands of anti-american governments, the United States, without a manufacturing base, will feel it immediately and will encounter a long, enduring process in recreating the manufacturing/production base it has so flippantly discharged to outside entities through outsourcing.

This should not be seen completely pessimistically. Of course it comes as a shock that the Russian economy has surged so quickly and their influence in the world has been growing steadily, especially so close to North America, and especially for those of us who grew up in the West and remember the days when the Soviet Union collapsed because we were explained in schools and textbooks that the communist system made its own demise. But Russia is the largest country in the world and it has vasts amounts of natural riches and very able people to make it strong. The only mistake was to think that Russia was colapsed forever, and that no effort was made prepare ourselves for when it reamerges. We were stuck, and are still stuck in a cold war mentality, where there is a common enemy. Where there is "them" and there is "us". Where we always presume that we know what we are doing. But abroad many people in many countries don't see america as the only global power, in fact don't care about america, and don't think they need it to be a progressive and democratic sociey, for that they look towards europe. As for economy many look to china as the future. But I must quote Putin and Medvedev, when they say the only way forward is to have a "multipolar world", without a single superpower. Then Iraqi type scandals will be far smaller and less in numbers in the future.

Russia is a Superpower again as the United States, CNN (as stated here on CNN August 1, 2008) and other news media's have admitted, this is an NATO expansion war. US former president Ronald Reagan promise Russia there would be no NATO expansion into post Soviet Union countries back 1989 which has clearly been violated. NATO is the new cold war, they are expanding and we cannot trust NATO. NATO is evil and Russia is the ally here. People need to Google the truth about what NATO means and what relation is NATO, EU & Bilderberg together. I support Russia and I am against NATO, NATO is the enemy here. NATO wants to expand membership and spread every they can into more countries. NATO is about building a military block and when countries apply for NATO membership, they wave their rights to protect themselves or governored themselves but are under the rules of NATO. It is a communist movement on a private sector by NATO and this is wrong. Russia & China has been dead set against NATO and this is why. I want Russia to make its stance and stand against NATO, this evil lieing agency that has no business taking countries rights away.

Long before the Russians set sail to the Carribean, another major fleet was already assembled outside the entrance to Lake Maricabo, It is the US Fourth Fleet.
Like Cuba in the 60s, Venezuela now is fearful. Fearful of El Norte. Just as the US launched an invasion in 1962 attempt so against Cuba, it has launched a coup attempt against Venezuela forty years later April 11-13 2002.
USA did a deal with the USSR that led to the Soviets withdrawing all its missiles - in return President Kennedy only had to promise not to attack Cuba. If only a similar deal would be struck - for the sake of not only Venezuela and Cuba, or even all Latin America but for peace of mind of the US too!
Every nation within Latin America wants to work with United States - Cuba is especially desparate now that four hurricanes have just hit it. But this will only work if the United States decides to work with each nation from tiny Dominica, to tommorrow's powerhouse Brazil; - not as a parent who provides candy to the obedient, and a beating to the others.

There has been grievous outsized naked aggression and intimidation of the former Soviet republic and free, Democratically elected Republic of Georgia. President Dmitry Medvedev has unofficially called off all hostilities.
1) We demand the permanent full cessations of hostilities in The Georgian region.
2) We demand the unpartisan protection, safety and welfare of all civilians
3a) We demand that Canada immediately halts Rabaska Gazprom Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) facility in Quebec
3b) This facility effectively establishes a Russian Energy Beachhead in North America and in a time of crisis would endanger Central Canada and help destabilize North America.
A full LNG tanker from Russia, if it should "accidentally" explode, has been proven to have an impact of 55 Hiroshima Nuclear Bombs. The Rabaska LNG facility itself located just across from Quebec City, opposed by local citizens, would itself have the effect of heavier impact nuclear bombs.

Enbridge Inc. and their partners Gaz Metro and Gaz de France announced last month(June 2008) that the company has signed a Letter of Intent with Gazprom Marketing & Trading USA, Inc., which outlines the terms under which Gazprom will become an equity partner in the proposed Rabaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification project.
Under the agreement Gazprom has agreed to supply 500 million cubic feet per day to the $840-million terminal east of Quebec City.
The Rabaska terminal is expected to introduce a new source of natural gas supply to the Quebec and eastern Ontario markets.
