I've wondered many times in my life what Kibbutz life would be like.
After just reading Steven Golant's post I'm considering it. Of course Mr. Golant's thoughts are those of just one person and however much I agree with his thoughts I like to get more information on the Kibbutzim. I understand different Kibbutzim are different and I wish to speak to someone that could put more light on the whole "Life and Times" of living in a Kibbutz in 2011 as I understand there have been changes made.
Thank you,

I am inactive as neurosurgeon but still teach academically both in that and other medical/biological fields...At this stage of my life I would enjoy living on a Kibbutz. My parents were Polish chalutzim.

Unfortunately too many people on the planet have fallen sway to the lies and delusions of western economic models which are clearly, even upon casual observation, un-sustainable (i.e. peak oil, population overshoot, and climate change) and is predicated upon corruption, greed, and, to my mind, profound economic inefficency, despite its apparent accomplishments to the contrary, not to mention its dependence and appeal to the basest instincts of the human animal. The Kibbutzim in erets Israel has been one of the most profound examples of real, sustainable economic progressivism ever implemented by humanity and directly responsible for much of the state of Israel's success at surviving under such hostile circumstances. It seems to me Israel may have not emphasized enough and gone too far in the wrong direction. I believe one day, perhaps in the distant future, mankind will eventually through off the yokes of greedy materialism and human selfishness and will live in a world that is designed to operate within the bounds of a balance in nature -- a world where all innocent creatures will be born to a world of real justice, real dignity, real opportunity for economic security and meaning, and the excesses we see so prevalent in our world will finally be overcome and banished forever. I believe this is the essence of progressivism - to progress to a greater state of the human condition. Bravo Kibbutzniks! As an American trapped in a corrupt and dismally duplicitous society, I remain an ardent admirer and potential member of your wonderful extended society. I may join you soon. Hopefully I would be able to find a place where I could make my simple contribution. Shalom le a col.

i was on yad Mordecai the early 90s.after living in UK all my life in the capitalist system of money comes before all/profits before people i am OK stuff everyone else it was a pleasant surprise to find people worked for each other helped each other and shared in its profit for a better life.i think it is s good way of life i had a better standard of life on kibbutz than i have now, i know lots of people who say the same thing .would i go back, yes .you can stay but cannot go back. those who do not like the system can move off the kibbutz.there choice,my choice to stay.
