Yes. But banks and corporations are hurting. Its a good time to squash them down to size where they belong. To hell with credit or stocks. We need a serious restructuring altogether.

Russia is not all the blame some goes to the us we need to work with russia in some areas but not all we should also egg on japan to have offensive weapons to help the U.S deal with russia and China.

"they can't make much money on peace" - Do you remember even one war where Russia got a big money? Chechnya? I dont think so. To attack small countries for their oil or gas - it is not Russia`s peculiarity.
"demographic catastrophe" - More that 10 years we are living in a state of terrible war, kidnapping, acts of terror and economic decline. How it could be differently? How we can to give birth when we dont know what will be tomorrow?
Now this situation is being changed. And this war is not our idea. But we have known about it and we have know that it would be very soon. Or in Georgia or in Ukrain or something else.
This situation is very advantageous for current US government: it can stop or slow down Russia`s strengthening on the world arena and also it can justify a US "war policy" of last years, and help to the Respublicans.
No matter who win on your elections - this politics will be continued. Bush and others are just puppets. We are living in the world where government is elected not by people.Banks and corporations are the masters of our world. And the native land of the most powerful banks is US that is why now we have America`s domination and not, for example, France`s domination in the world.
I have read all of these comments - we all understand what is going on and why it happens. But problem is - we cant change anything.

I am an American. i agree with some comment here, The world need Russia to counterbalance the US game, "the world is an American Lake, and mine to do my own chosing" this is the only way we can avoid idiot in Washington thinking that they could do whatever they please without consequence.

of US. US wants everybody to follow them. Afterall
you cant expect more from a country where its people
dont have any roots to any particular culture.Who are
Americans? they have borrowed best brains from other
countries including asia. Dont have anything to claim
their own.We need some sort of check force for US imperialism
and now tats only Russia.Europe should show its identity and stop interfering in russia's problem.They should understand
that America doesnt have any permenant friends/enemies. Only motto is to supress the world and create their market to sell goods.Idiot tax payers will vote if some tax % is slashed.

The situation in georgia is looking more like a US smoke screen from world attention on its plans for Iran. The US/israel are going to strike Iran soon and the US knows it will have to deal with Russia militarily when it does.The position of Russia with relation to Georgia now gives the US more options for preparing its forces without looking like the aggressor. Why the television and newspaper media is not reporting on what is taking place now in the middle east as far as the huge US naval buildup along with France,Britain and Canada is of major concern,the average citizen has no idea of what is taking place and the inevidable world war we are headed towards.

The author and some commenters went as far as identifying Russia's internal problems. How about dropping some light on the U.S. domestic issues? How about double standard approach abroad? Russia's response is only the beginning. Wait till China and Muslim world get completely fed.
If NATO continues its attempt to "isolate" Russia, so be it. The alliance and its followers are not the world. But one thing that neo-cons should keep in mind when expanding their missile defense to Eastern Europe is that Russian nuclear submarinies can launch nukes from the Arctic. Missiles in Cuba are history, but would make perfect sense Venezuela. With politicians like Condomeezza, Americans may be led to believe that "oil campaign" in Irag should expand to the Carribean basin. Why no one is talking about hot-heads in Washington? How many more problems for the world they need to create before their electorate realizes and prevents potential consequences?
