the land surface is scarce in our planet...even scarcer are the green forests that consume the carbon dioxide to produce our needed oxygen and allow rainfall to wet the earth without washing the soil productive layers...thru our regrettable ecological history .. mankind has decimated forests while ever increasing contaminating our fragile atmosphere which unduly warms the climate, melts the polar ice and the glaciers, dehumidifies the soil and leads to an inexorable water scarcity that we will soon deplore..... in the name of rampant profit seeking chico mendes...herald of the beauty and worth of forests... is assasinated... writen off the face of the earth.. will we allow such magnicide to continue without redress?..every human being must remember chico..must plant trees not cut them..must save energy.. must not pollute oceans air or land..chico you did not die in vain....

Many years ago I read a book called 'The Burning Season' about Chico Mendez, the rubber tappers and the indians and their fight to try to stop the destruction of the forest by the cattle farmers who were encouraged by the government to clear the land.
I also recall that the thing that brought the attention of the world to the Amazon (also many years ago) was photos taken from an American space ship of the huge smoke cloud over the Amazon caused by burning off after clearing.
This clearing is still going on today. Where will this destructive behaviour end?

AMAZON IS A WORLD SCARCE ENDANGERED RESOURCE FOR RAINFALL AND WILDLIFE; TOURISM, NOT FARMING, IS THE TRUSTEE'S PROPER GOAL. HUMANITY CAN ONLY SURVIVE IF THE QUALITY SOME HUMAN LIVES ARE SACRIFICED TO PROTECTE THIS RESOUCE.
