Sarkozy is on a constant electoral campaign. That's why he is omnipresent in the media. His insults of people who disagree with him hardly demonstrate democratic credentials.
Yes, the French people "are profoundly monarchist" and never wholeheartedly accepted the French revolution. Under the surface there's still the desire to have a Monarchy. Therefore Sakozy's visit to Britain, where he was received by Queen Elizabeth with pomp and circumstances was a huge success and the French applauded the event. For a change Sarkozy managed to behave during these five days and did not embarrass the public.
