Why Islamic States Would Be Bad for Muslims

In political Islam, there is NO valid law other than the Islamic law, Sharia. The constitutions of liberal democracies are nothing more than the folly of fallible men and not worth the paper and ink wasted on them.

ISLAM is a WAR on the cornerstones of democratic principles: individual rights and freedoms. ISLAM is a declared WAR on the very existence of democracy and the freedom of mind in the world.

In ISLAM, there is absolutely NO room for political pluralism. None!

The ultimate goal of islam is to rule the world and impose sharia law everywhere which they hope will not only encompass muslims but non-muslims as well. When are people going to wake up and see what is happening? Your very democracy is under seige. I am a convert from that to Christianity. This is not a so called religion that is willing to live in peace with other faiths, it is one that preaches in front of the world, eventual world domination and violence against those who do not accept or believe. The smoke of satan. You cannot discuss sharia law and find democracy anywhere in it. It changes with the times to suit the needs of this group. When are governments going to become aware (Europe, North America) that by sheer numbers and your own democratic way of life, you are already in danger of losing your own freedoms? Why is this 'thing' being forced on Christian students for example in German schools? Are they insane?

vindeep...it was when Shari'a was implemented that the Muslim world produced so much as you seem to lament for...you being a moron though is evident so i would not expect you to see your contradiction, or just being a racist hindu it sounds like.

It does not take a rocket scientist to see what implementation of Sharia overtly or covertly has done and doing in history. A non Muslim objectivity is more acceptable than a Muslim subjectivity even in an Islamic court, when it comes to business or expertise. I commend Mr. Noah Feldman for his objectivity and scholarship.

Maybe a day is coming when some Muslims would come to such an unbiased assement of the Sharia regardless of interest.

Why not ask to compare a secular state with civil liberties beyond the authority of any government to a theocracy in which the dogma is interpreted by an orthodoxy responsible only to the increase of its own authority?

The answer should be obvious. The very few times that a caliph championed a liberal and ecumenical policy he was either murdered or his success did not endure after his death.

It is not sharia, but the religious fanatics who wish to retain their powers in any theocracy that transform the simple ethics of any belief into a complex legal system. The poor man does not beg, It is the obligation of those who are not poor to find those in need and care for them. All the rest require threats, fear, and coercion to control behavior to benefit those who decide what is good and what is bad.

sharia would be great for muslims

when muslims applied sharia they wear the leader of the world like in andalucia

I can see that the writer is bias. Give the stories on Obama and the Rev Wright a break. This topic has been overdiscussed and written about to much. Obama's character will not be destroyed by Rev Wright or the writers and media. It is obvious that the writer of this article favors another candidate. Let go of the old news and history, and move on.

I understand its about rating and selling papers but don't underestimate we the people.

No we will not be judged by our pastors lives. None of us.

Obama will be the next President of the United States of America

I agree with Abdullah Ahmed An-Na'im's analysis. Unlike Mr Feldman, Dr An-Na'im has experienced the abuses of sharia and is familiar with real world conditions. Mr feldman's writings are based solely upon his perceived rejection from his high school, and his writings ultimately can be predicted as anything that would anger his alma mater. I will trust real world experience over a grudge anytime
