So what is the lame excuse for not importing the wasps to control the stink bugs?

Roland O. Peterson of MA 3:39PM July 01, 2011

It should be up to the states to use, not the federal gov't.

This neonicotinoid pesticide is lethal for honey bees. Realize that 30% of our food supply depends on pollinators, and the honeybee is responsible for most of that.

This sounds like a very bad idea

Somebody should tell the EPA that Eco-Smart, which you can buy in Loews, will kill the Stink Bug. I've tried it, and it kills them and actually turns them orange. it's the only stuff I have seen so far that works on them.

It's going to take a lot of pesticide to eradicate the stink bugs in DC. At least a few tons of it on the White House to get the biggest stink.

"Since the introduction of man made fertalizers the dead zone in the gulf of mexico has more than doubled."

karl of TX, you don't really believe that do you? My brother farms in the Midwest. He is not going to apply anymore fertilizer than needed. In truth you have no idea what it takes to produce food these days.

@Karl of TX: Though widely believed, It is simply not true that DDT is bad for the environment. DDT is actually incredibly safe, and could still do a lot of good today.

The popular uprising against DDT was ignited by the book "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson. That book has been shown to have such serious methodoligical issues that it qualifies as junk science.

Please read the book "The excellent powder" (title taken from a WWII citation of DDT by Churchill) for extensive documentation of the safety and efficacy of DDT.

DDT saved probaby hundreds of millions (and at least tens of millions) of lives before it was banned by misguided environmentalists combined in an odd alliance with people who bought into the "population bomb" myth and wanted to reduce human populations (very ugly, but true).

Hey Stu, why dont you do some basic research on the internet

and walk out of your cloud of ignorance.

there is a reason why chemicals like DDT are banned and

why we dont allow lead in pipes or paint anymore.

your old enough .. dont you remember a book called silent spring ?

The EPA definition of Insecticides is that it: "Kill(s) insects and other arthropods." Therefore, in order to be an insecticide, it has to be "lethal" to the insects/arthropods to which it is applied or targeted...

This is another story dealing with a scientific subject written by a "biased" liberal arts major, who probably took the absolute minimum number of scientific courses at his liberal university... His lack of understanding of the subject is mind boggling.

Kyle M of LA 12:40PM July 01, 2011

You need to do some more research that stuff is bad for the whole ecosystem and you probably passed on some genetic defects to your children or grandchildren becuase of it.
