House GOP Lists $2.5 Trillion in Spending Cuts

I have always wanted to know: When, and by whom was it decided that Congress was to be treated like United States Royalty -- not having to contribute to Social Security, or like all other US Citizens, be under the same medical regulations/constrictions, etc. I don't remember ever having the opportunity to vote on it. They are not special. They work FOR the people, not above them. Our government is not much of a democracy if the citizens have no input. I truly believe that if all citizens, regardless of whether they work in Washington DC, or state senate, should be governed equally. Now, having read the list of proposed cuts and realizing "we the people" had no idea our taxes were being spent on such things, I believe Washington DC truly is the most corrupt place in the country.

As you were LoneStar of AL . I can't read. But I don't know how accurate your figers are.

To: LoneStar of AL You show a total of over $495 Trillion. How is that less than 2.5T?

The closest thing I see in cutting any of Congress's over paid salaries is dispensing with the death gratuities. They already have free health care and a lucrative retirement so why couldn't they give up some of that unearned money?

The biggest savings I can think of, would be to put members of government on Social Security like the rest of us. One term should not guarantee someone a full pension for life; beginning when you leave office.

You serve two or four years, you put your funds into the SS pot like everyone else. Then when you reach 65, 66, 67, or whatever, based on your age of retirement, you get to withdraw it like the rest of us.

The savings there would be astronomical, and it's almost a guarantee they would get it fixed.

Most of this should have never been introduced in the first place!! Americans need to stand up and make our leaders fiscally responsible before they take 100% of what we earn! Its called government control people! Wake up!!!

I added them all up and come up with $495,656,300,000.00 over 10 years. Granted several cuts do not have projected savings. But this is well short of the 2.5 Trillion claimed.

Obviously there are more cuts, but only the politically expedient are listed here.

The point is spending. Cut up the credit card and pay off the debt. Average Americans do it every day and get out of debt, why can't the government? Answer: it isn't their money or debt, they have insulated themselves from any risk except the failure of the dollar and the economy. Funny they are not smart enough to realize that they are ALL active participants to this end.
