I wouldn't count Michigan as a red state just yet. Although the Democrats have no viable candidate as of now, neither do the Republicans.
The current leader Mike Cox will have his investigation of the Manoogian Mansion party in 2002 and ousted Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick joined at his hip. This is an ongoing investigation with new developments that could collapse Cox's campaign at any time.
Pete Hoekstra is a relative unknown outside of Western Michigan and his conservative views may not mesh well with democratic voters.
The Democrats may yet find a viable candidate who can run a populist campaign that resonates with Michigan voters.

although in Queen Pelosi's case - it's doubtful that even without partisan biased redistricting - that the swell folks in Marin County would send their beloved leader to the dreaded guillotine
meanwhile the rest of us may as well start blowing up our water wings again - as we'll all be toppling into the Pacific if her high-horse tilts any further to the left
of course we're STILL trying to dry out -and CLEAN UP!- from the CONTINUING TRAGEDY OF KATRINA {does ANYONE even care anymore?}
alas it appears that ALL "The Powers That Be" are far too obsessed with battling over who gets to plop their big fat rears in the most covetted driver's seats . . . while burning up obscene amounts of "war chests on the campaign trails" - which they repeatedly defend by proudly proclaiming that "the ends justify the means"?!
so does Sabato accept credit cards - or is he cash only . . . just another day of business as usual in America
