Could you learn to spell computer, please (I frequently manke mistake when I type too fast as well ;-) ). By the way mam, I am a conservationist but not a environmentalist. Environmentalists are like watermelons; green on the outside and red on the inside.

Today I got to vote for Scott Brown. I also contributed to his campaign. In Massachusetts for Scott Brown to win by 5 or 6 points is unbelieveable! In Massachusetts we have mandated healthcare. This was a joint project of Teddy K and Mitt Rommey. President Obama is wasting his political capital on Obamacare. He needs to move on to more important things like creating jobs in the private sector...

Every "Red-Blooded American" needs to get out and defeat the forces of evil, a.k.a. the Progessive Liberal-Collectivist Democrats and their Fabian Socialist/Communitarian agenda. The Republicans are not much better, but they are all we got...

Voters (specially independents) political opinions can change very often depending on the "big" issues at the present time. Right now, many people disagree with the health care reform issue for example. A lot can happen between now and next November and these polls may look completely different. Obama hasn't even been in office for a full year, polls are bound to be in favor and against Democrats many more times during his term.

Forget health care and cap and trade. Everything comes down to how the economy is doing next year.

If unemployment is still close to 10%, the Democrats will suffer losses to the Republicans. Remember Obama promised that the stimulus package would limit unemployment to a max of 8%. Soon we will hear "Obama Lied" just as we heard "Bush Lied" when no WMD's were found in Iraq.

Clinton beat the first Bush due to the economy. Bush was very popular a year before the election due to the success of the Gulf war. But the economy tanked and then Bush lost.

The sad thing is that we have no viable alternatives to the Democrats or Republicans. So we blame whoever is in power, especially when one party controls the presidency, house and senate.

The last time we had balance in the federal government is from 1994 to 2000 when Clinton was president and the republicans controlled the house and senate. This arrangement forced more centrist policies to be adopted. The public is never comfortable when one party controls everything because policies then move either too far right or too far left for many of the voters.

Comparing the educational attainment of people by party registration doesn't mean a whole lot, since in every election, a fair number of Democrats will vote for the Republican candidate, and a fair number of Republicans will vote for the Democratic candidate.

I think it makes more sense to look at the education levels of people as a function of who they voted for. I haven't seen this for 2008, but in 2004, Newsweek's poll showed that there was an almost linear correlation between educational level, and support for Kerry.

Bush had far more support (in the 2004 elections) among those with just a high-school diploma. Kerry did slightly better with bachelor degrees and far better among those with graduate degrees. The "break-even" point was at about 2 years of college (I don't remember the exact number, but it was approximately two years).

If that trend holds true now - and I don't know if it does or not - then it says something interesting that, the more well-educated you are, the more likely you are to vote for a Democrat (even if the correlation is not especially strong, it's definitely statistically significant).

My guess (based on survey's I've seen published) is that rejection of widely-accepted scientific theories (evolution, plate-tectonics, or any other theory that might be interpreted as contradicting the Bible) is probably higher among Republicans as well. This hostility towards science is only going to hurt the GOP in the long run.

Well the Democrats haven't made change so what do they expect? Voters are grasping at straws. I would definitely prefer left-wing change over right-wing change, but Democrats are blowing their chance by allowing the banks to control their every move. They aren't standing up to unelected power. Working-class people are headed straight for the poor house no matter who's in "power" because the people with real authority are private interests and aren't subject to the will of the electorate anyway. My plan is to finish college as soon as possible and then move to Canada.

But, studies actually show that Republicans are more likely to be college educated. Although Democrats command a larger slice of those with post-graduate degrees, that's a far thinner piece of the electorate. The bulk of Democratic Party support comes from those with a high school education and those who never graduated from high school. So, since you've gotten the basic premise of your post completely wrong, the rest simply doesn't follow.

David1225 of ME 11:44PM November 11, 2009

Which studies would those be that show liberals are more highly educated? Would it be the achievement gap in every public school of the minority students? Would it be the massive dropout rates of inner city ( Democratic) students? Of course we know how much respect all the progressive educated elites give to their blue collar union buddies who actually do the hard physical labor of busting heads and getting out the vote. The oh so highly educated masses of liberal school administrators and professors have done wonders for the students stuck in their gang infested and "diverse" halls of learning. Perhaps Republicans are laughing at the "sheep' who put them in office. However, I would much prefer to be a sheep laughed at, than a lamb led to the slaughter like the pitiful people who are living in the progressive hellholes that Democrats have left in their wake. Chicago? Detroit? Washington D.C.? Too bad for the poor kids that aren't good enough to share space with the children of the compassionate liberals. I hear Sidwell Friends has an awesome program and great security too.
