It's Free-Range Turkey for First Lady Michelle Obama

There's another Obama burger in town, but this time it's in honor of Michelle. Former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn concocted a new burger dubbed "Michelle's Melt" for his Capitol Hill burger joint, the Good Stuff Eatery, and is debuting it tomorrow on Good Morning America. "The First Lady is a good customer and I was embarrassed to just have the Prez Obama burger on our menu," Mendelsohn says in a press release, referring to a trip Michelle Obama and her staff made to the restaurant in May.

Mendelsohn first made burgers named after Barack Obama and John McCain during the 2008 presidential election season and continues to carry the Obama burger on his menu. Michelle's Melt is a bit healthier than the bacon-and-blue-cheese burger he created in honor of President Obama; it's a free-range turkey burger with caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and South Lawn herb-garden mayo on a whole wheat bun. Michelle's Melt will be available at Good Stuff starting Friday, with all proceeds going toward D.C. Central Kitchen, which trains and feeds the city's homeless and hungry.

I'm glad the proceeds are going to the D.C. Central Kitchen; however, Michelle may want to tell Spike to make sure he cooks the burger all the way. I had an experienced of where I ordered two turkey burgers that he cooked and prepared that were VERY under-cooked. And I was pregnant! Just a warning to the turkey burger audience that attends the Good Stuff Eatery.
