The Top 6 Foods for TSA's Bomb-Sniffing Dogs

July 20, 2009 RSS Feed Print

It turns out that the Army isn't the only force that marches on its stomach. The highly trained bomb-sniffing dogs used by the Transportation Security Administration do too. And we now know what brands they favor. According to a new dog food solicitation by the agency, we learn that six major brands are preferred: Hills Science Diet, Canidae, California Natural, Eukanuba, EVO, and Innova. And TSA has at least 15 different versions it prefers. So if you have the makings of a security dog, make sure to at least consider the following:

Canidae Lamb & Rice

California Natural Chicken and Rice

California Natural Lamb and Rice

Eukanuba

Eukanuba Lamb & Rice

EVO Red Meat Large Breed

Innova Dry

Innova Evo

Hills Science Diet Adult

Hills Science Diet Active K9

Hills Science Diet Adult Light

Hills Science Diet Adult can food Hills Science Diet Mature

Hills Science Diet Adult Small Bites

My Chocolate lab and I have been through every 'high end' food they say are out there. Over the course fo 6 years. It only takes 2 weeks on a 'preferred' food to find out my girl is sensitive to an ingredient and begins to get bloated and itchy with eyes and ears starting to discharge. These are signs of the food sensitivity and take note in your own dogs when this happens. I've purchased Organic foods, graiin free foods, duck forumla's, Organix.(very expensive) and to no avail. CHICKEN (so contaminated I wonder if people should even be eating it in this country. CORN< WHEAT< WHITE RICE and glutens are the worst thing for our bodies. Stripped of every beneficial nutrient in it's whole form, and fungi, and pesticides cover these products months before they even reach the factory for processing.

I just started my 5 month old Pup and momma Lucie on Lamb and Rice Canidae, got through one 40lb back, and Voila, no itching, no ear discharge and eyes have cleared up. My 5 month old pup, has decided she 'will' eat all her food now ( as she was picky and disiinterested in all but food I cooked for her) until now! I am hooked on the Dry food so long as the formula stays true and my girls continue in the new found Love of this Lamba and Rice formula!

TSA needs to get their dogs off Eukanuba and Science Diet as both brands have corn in most of their formulas, and corn is one of the leading allergins in dogs.

Canidae, California Natural, Evo and Innova are some of the best foods on the market for dogs and cats, without the cheap fillers, one of which is corn.

Look at Hills Science Diet Adult Light - the first ingredients listed are: Ground Whole Grain Corn, Soybean Mill Run 16% (source of fiber), Chicken By-Product Meal, Powdered Cellulose, Corn Gluten Meal, Soybean Meal. (Straight off their website). Yuk, yuk and more yuk.

Come on TSA - more Canidae and Natura Products and less junk food.

We feed our dogs Canidae and Felidae to our cats. It's all natural, and I like the fact that the company puts emphasis on good nutrition, and not alot of money spent on marketing and advertising.
